Halloween and Zombies and UPenn and Carlin Adelson

Carlin Adelson and UPennOne more day 'til Halloween and as part of our Halloween series, I've got a somewhat wrong, yet very funny treat for you all.

After the jump, watch a short about "racist zombies" from Carlin Adelson (C'09, West Philly Tutoring, Sigma Kappa) and her Upright Citizens Brigade trained sketch comedy group "The Charlies".

Watch until the end!

Ben Stiller and Mark Sanchez and LaDainian Tomlinson and New York Jets

I cover lots of traditional entertainment career pursuits from alumni on DT like acting, filmmaking, and writing, but equally creative can be that of Marketing.
UPenn and Melisa Kirkup and Tower Heist
After the jump, check out a promo spot for ESPN that Universal Media Promotions and Marketing manager Melisa Kirkup (C'01) worked on for the new movie Tower Heist (in theaters Nov. 4th) featuring Ben Stiller as well as Mark Sanchez and LaDainian Tomlinson of the New York Jets. Plus check out Melisa's advice to re: job searching.

UPenn and Jake Avnet and Final Destination and Saved by the Bell

Over the years I've featured brilliant, high quality viral hits from producer Jake Avnet (C'05, Co-Chairman of Undergraduate Film Advisory Board, Founder of the Lecture Series, "Talking Film").

We're talking awesone films about Trojan condoms, a very NSFW short with Scott Baio, a film with the real Jersey Shore cast, and another NSFW film about "love needing a hand."

UPenn and Jake Avnet and Final Destination and Saved by the BellJake just launched "NEW ROMANCE", a new video you MUST watch which has all the cheesiness of "Saved By the Bell" combined with the horror of the Final Destination films.

After the jump, check out the video and find out how Jake got to do this short for Warner Brothers!

UPenn and Wharton MBA and Wharton Follies

Recently the Wharton Follies produced a creatively awesome video parody of the "Dove Evolution" commercial depicting "the evolution of an MBA".

After the jump, check out the sped up video depicting changing hairstyles, alcohol, working out, credit cards and love to name a few. (my favorite sequence at minute 0:58-1:00).

UPenn and Jill Goldberg
After the viral lady gaga cover she did, Jill Goldberg (C'04, Dischord A Cappella, Penn Choir, Wind Ensemble) has been hard at work on her new album "Girl, Polite".

The album just dropped and she's got some real catchy music on it with some interesting backstories.

After the jump, check out her new music video for "Not Worth It" and her anthem on how to be a stronger person.

UPenn and Superbowl

Because this weekend is the Superbowl, I thought you'd all appreciate a viral video created by the Penn alum who created a musical interpretation of The GodfatherTom Dimenna (C'02, Quarterback for Varsity Football Team).

In Tom's film THE PURISTS, two football coaches speak out about what is truly, "Old School".

The video stars Tom as Walter "Gibbs" Branigan and and fellow Penn alum Jeff Hatch (C'01) as Kyle Rogers, a third round draft pick out of Penn State.

After the jump, watch the short and be sure to check out these old timer's reaction to "artificial turf"!

UPenn and Gabriel Mann and The Rescues

While THIS song continues to be my #1 favorite Gabriel Mann (C'95, Off the Beat) song, Gabe and his band "The Rescues" just covered another sure to be favorite of mine of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" ....and it's awesome.

Not only that but their music video for the cover is going viral with over 63k hits in 5 days (and is #31 on itunes alternative charts and climbing!)

Watch it after the jump!

UPenn and Neil Hellegers and IPad

Actor Neil Hellegers (C'99, Arts House Theatre, Pi Lam) has quite an interesting story here...

Recently, Neil shot a commercial for Newsday (Long Island/NYC local paper) for their new IPad application. In the spot, Neil demonstrates that the new Newsday Ipad app is better than the newspaper in all kinds of ways, except for one... In a matter of 4 days, the video became viral and reached 1,000,000 hits!

After the jump, watch the video and find out about its controversy and why it was soon abruptly removed from the web!

Matt Rittberg and Cocaine and UPenn and NSFW

There is only one thing more ridiculously funny than Matt Rittberg's (L'02) NSFW "Yeay O'Doul's" video you're about to see.

And that is the fact that apparently there was an ACTUAL PRODUCT like this on the market in the 80s called "Synth Coke".

Check out Matt's video and the horrendous 80's video after the jump!

Lady Gaga and Jill Goldberg and UPenn

Jill Goldberg (C'04, Dischord A Cappella, Penn Choir, Wind Ensemble) is one smart (and talented) musician.

Jill got inspired by so many independent artists who got literally millions of views for their cover video song that she thought she'd jump on the bandwagon herself to help her promote her upcoming album.

After the jump check out Jill's great rendition of a popular Lady Gaga song!

DJ Lubel and UPenn

Actor DJ Lubel (C'05) and Producer Jake Avnet (C'05) have produced another viral video hit that explores how there's only one real way to tell a woman you love her...

And sometimes, "love needs a hand."

You know where this is going, and after the jump, find out how professional looking they execute on this this very funny, very NSFW film.

dave cowen and upenn
Penn alum Dave Cowen (C'06, TEP, 34th Street, Write On!) is certainly carving a niche out for himself in Hollywood.

While Dave has been finishing his MFA degree in Screenwriting at USC, he's been busy with two very entertaining projects you'll want to check out (one with another fellow Penn alum).

After the jump, you'll never look at a guy dressed up in a Teddy Bear costume in the same way again...

UPenn and Rob Pearlstein and Baby Bump

UPenn and Rob Pearlstein and Baby Bump
After his short film was nominated for an Oscar in 2006, Rob Pearlstein (C'95, DP) went on to create another funny film that caught our attention.

Now, Rob has created what seems to be a sure viral video sensation called "She Gotta Bump", a song as he says, "for all you beautiful pregnant ladies".

Watch this very funny video after the jump ...and his reference to pickle farts. (look out for Rob in minute 1:57)

Price is Right and UPenn
For my "Games and Movies" series I've got a GREAT video (edited by DT favorite Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig)) based on the ultimate game(show), "The Price is Right".

Specifically, based on the show's announcer.

In this video, "Price Is Right" announcer Rich Fields trains hard with coach Lou Ferrigno, aka "The Hulk", to become the greatest announcer of all time. As a result, he can't turn it off, and drives his wife crazy!

...Speaking of gameshows, remember my post on THIS Penn alum on "Jeopardy"?

Halloween

Last month I introduced all of you to actor Ben Pace (C'00) and his fun "Elevator" series in which he stars as "Harold the Janitor".

This web series which was developed in the HBO Lab and has recently been bought by Break Media, launched a fun, campy, "Halloween" mini-series this week.    In the 4 episodes, "Harold" (Ben) figures out a new way to get the girl.

Watch these 4 very short videos through and I think you'll agree with me that Ben is indeed a great, slick comedic actor.
Part 1
Harold reveals a bloodthirsty secret when he gets his 25 years of service award.

Part 2
Vampire Harold has a passionate exchange with his beloved and Chris is caught in the middle.

Part 3
Robert shares his own monstrous secret to Vampire Harold. Harold is not amused.

Part 4

Something is killing employees all over the building. Vampire Harold has to come clean to stop the murders.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Last week, Jesse Tendler (W'02, Eng'03, Mask and Wig) and his liberal activist group Billionaires for Wealthcare interrupted *AHIP pollster Bill McInturff during his closing speech of the insurance lobby’s conference.

No stranger to musical spoofs from his Mask and Wig days, Jesse and company did their own rendition of “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie.

The video you see above has already gotten the attention of MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, the Huffington Post, and was even tweeted by Ashton Kutcher (and let's not forget about how his wife Demi tweeted about THIS video sensation from other Mask and Wig alum!)

*FYI, per the Billionaires for Wealthcare, here's the skinny on "AHIP":
*AHIP is the powerful insurance lobby that spends 5 million dollars a week trying to kill health care reform. Billionaires for Wealthcare is a grassroots network looking to stop them - with song.

• AHIP and other insurance and HMO interests spend nearly $5 million per week undermining real health care reform, including a public option.

• AHIP has resorted to out-right lying and scare tactics to block health care reform. They sent letters that lie to seniors about what health care reform means for Medicare, and they issued a report on the costs of health care reform legislation that is so misleading even the reports embarrassed authors distanced themselves from the way AHIP used their work.

• Every year, 45,000 people die because they cant get access to the health care they need. Yet AHIP continues to stand in the way of health care reform that would provide coverage to millions of Americans because the industry is more concerned with protecting profits than saving lives.

Check out the Lyrics to "Public Option Annie" HERE +/-
(to the tune of "Tomorrow" from Annie)

SINGER #1
No, thank you!
FOR KILLING THE PUBLIC OPTION
AND BLOCKING ANY HOPES OF ITS ADOPTION
THANK YOU, SIR!

SINGER #2
Sure,
BUT WHAT ABOUT COMPETITION?
IT'S AN OLD AMERICAN TRADITION
OR SO I'VE HEARD?

SINGER #1
Meh.

SINGER #3
WHEN OLYMPIA SNOWE
SAID NO,
IT CROAKED
Right?

SINGER #2
NO, THE OPTION'S NOT DEAD

SINGER #3
OR RED!

SINGER #1
EXPLAIN!
Who let these hippies in here?

SINGERS #2 AND #3, and CHORUS MEMBERS
IF WE GET A PUB-
LIC OPTION
WE CAN SNIFF OUT WASTE
JUST LIKE A DACHSUND
COSTS COME DOWN!

SINGER #1
Hey, those "costs" are my profits!

SINGERS #2 AND #3, and CHORUS MEMBERS
THE OPTION
THE OPTION
THE PUBLIC WANTS OPTIONS
WITHOUT IT,
IT'S A GIVEAWAY

SINGER #1
Exactly. To us. Am I in the right room?
THE OPTION
THE OPTION
THE PUBLIC WANTS AN OPTION

SINGERS #2 AND #3, and CHORUS MEMBERS
OR REFORM IS A CORP'RATE GIVE-A-WAY!

SINGER #1
Well, I've heard enough - my helicopter is parked in a handicap space.
