Matt Johnson's (C'99) independent pilot, What She's Having, which he produced and directed, is an official selection in the New York Television Festival and will be screening in Manhattan the weekend after Labor Day. The pilot actually scores a Penn alum hat-trick, with Sarit Catz (C'86, Bloomers) writing and executive producing, and Rich Hollman (C'99, Mask and Wig, AEPi) starring."

Matt encourages all of you New York alumni to come out and see it @ New World Stages - 340 West 50th Street (Between 8th & 9th Avenues)! ("There's an audience award, so we want to pack the house!"):
-Saturday, September 8th - 2:15 pm
-& Sunday, September 9th - 5:45 pm

Matt also has written and directed a short called Cheating with the Vacuum (the language is Not Safe For Work, so use headphones if you're in a cubicle.) ...and it seriously sucks. Not in the bad way. : )

A few weeks ago at a Penn event here in Los Angeles I met Seth Asher (W'97), mortgage broker to multitudes of entertainment industry professionals in Los Angeles and New York, and others across the country.
Last week Seth was quoted in articles published in Forbes, CNBC, Boston Globe, Business Week, etc., about tightening credit for home buyers.

For those of you who this effects, this may be some useful information. Per Seth, for our entertainment crowd, "many people in entertainment have significant assets but take a lot of income tax deductions, so they cannot document their income; loans with no income documentation have been effected the most dramatically by market changes."

Feel free to reach out to Seth at sasher@myloanmarket.com for comments or questions.

What do "business objectives", "go to market strategies" and "board of directors" have to do with dating?

Adman Donny Deutsch (W'79) tells us on the Today show this week.

Over the past 2 days, Donny has been showing 3 women how they can take charge of their love life in a segment called "Be the CEO of Your Dating Life."

If you don't know about Donny, he is big time in the advertising world and hosts the CNBC show called The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch (M-F, Sunday, 10 p.m. ET) which from his website features "hot topics, trendy talk and a fearless approach to the big issues of the day."

Tune in to Today (pause) tomorrow morning (Wednesday) for the final installment of "Be the CEO of Your Dating Life"! Check your local listings.

Kevin Misher (far left) on the set of The Interpreter.
Photo by ;Phil Bray - © 2005 Universal Studios.

Kevin Misher (C'87) to produce an untitled action film.

According to comingsoon.net, the film is about:

"a rough-hewn heroic tale about realizing dreams of glory, putting audiences ringside at high-stakes underground street fights. Tatum [O'Neill] will star as Sean Arthur, a young man who scrapes up a living scalping tickets in NYC. With family tragedy in his past and his father keeping him at a distance, this outsider has little to motivate him. A chance encounter with a veteran street-fighting coach leads to a whole new career for Sean. The ensuing bouts get tough, especially with the criminal element horning in, so Sean gets tougher. He will fight to win, not only the prize money but also the unexpected new relationships that are strengthening him."

Kevin is currently in post-production on Christian Alvart's Case 39, starring Renée Zellweger and Jodelle Ferland, for release this winter. For you comic book fans out there, I also see on his IMDB profile that he'll be producing "Sub-Mariner". His earlier producing credits include The Interpreter and The Rundown.

When I first moved to LA around 1996, Kevin was part of a bunch of successful Penn alumni at Universal Studios including Stacey Snider (C'82) (former Chairman of Universal Pictures, now CEO/co-chair of Dreamworks), Ali Brecker Shearmur (C'89) (former Exec VP of Universal, now producing deal at Paramount) and Marc Platt (C'79) (Executive Producer). It's great to see that they've all gone on to great success. Stay tuned on DuelingTampons.com for future posts about what all of these alumni are up to!

David Loewy (Eng'10, Mask and Wig) balances more than just school work and extra curricular activities like Mask and Wig.

A couple of weeks ago, David made his European television debut on MTV's (European) Best Show Ever with his "Best Balancing Video Ever." Per David, "Sadly, I was NOT actually crowned the Best Balancer Ever. The title went to the first balancer on the list, a less talented ass-clown (albeit nice guy) who happened to pick cooler-looking balancing subjects. Smaller things are five times more difficult to balance, but look five times less impressive."
