Sorry I just got wind of this one, but last night John Legend (C'99, Counterparts) was interviewed by Donny Deutsch (W'79) on Donny's show, The Big Idea in a segment called "Your Daily Roadmap to the American Dream".
I'll be on the lookout for video, but in the meantime, you can check out Donny's site here for updates.

"Porn is awesome. Many women my age understand porn is just sexual stimulation — not competition.”
Got your attention?
This quote comes from undergrad aspiring journalist and college magazine editor Jessica Gold Haralson (C'08) in this month's Playboy college edition. Jessica was invited to speak at a college roundtable of journalists from colleges with an interest in sexuality.
Jessica is quite the emerging writer with a unique voice. She started a campus smart-sex magazine, works at Penn’s Kelly Writers House, and is currently interning at smart smut publication Nerve.com. She edits the Nerve Video Blog and is a research assistant for Nerve culture blog Scanner. In addition, she serves as an editorial/PR assistant to Philadelphia-based journalist Stephen Fried.
Last year she started Quake Magazine (her erotica publication) and per Jessica, "it is no longer a print publication, but look out for an online version this winter."
If you’d like to know more, please shoot her a line at jgh@sas.upenn.edu. She would love to hear from you!

Times have changed.
Today, I'm seeing most of the 64 freshmen candidates create Facebook groups and flyers for their campaigns...loaded with photos, qualification and promises. Promises ranging from "stronger water pressure for the shower heads in the quad" to bringing "quality toilet paper to a bathroom near you" to "massueses and free snacks in Houston Hall"! In the microcosm of Penn, these are some of the issues that I'm guessing may resonate with freshmen.. Regardless they all have one thing in common... spirit!
Some marketing tactics I've been noticing for the big 9/24 campus wide vote include "a fact a day" email from one candidate to this forward thinking way of reaching out to students from Jeff Kaplan (C'11).
Click here to watch Jeff Kaplan's campaign video.
Something tells me that there may be more videos to come...
****************************************************************
Jeff isn't the only one in student government using video to reach out to the student masses. It seems like videos are also being used by UA chair Jason Karsh (C'08).
Check out Jason's fun spirited video (which also shows off the campus)

I bet you never heard of "RVS"?
...Stand-up Jessie Schneiderman (C'05, Off the Beat) is about to tell you, but be sure to put on your headphones first. Not safe for work.
Jessie brings her comedy stylings to improv clubs and sketch comedy groups here in Hollywood. Plus, there's a great Penn connection here in that Jessie does many of the stand-up shows hosted by another funny Penn alum Lesley Wolff (C'93, Bloomers).
If you can't catch Jessie on stage, she also co-hosts a live internet show every Tuesday night at 8pm on thestream.tv (the show is called Live!from the future with Stuart Papp). Jessie is the "IM girl" and people can IM her live at thestreamdottv.
Besides her stand-up, I also checked out her funny short about "bffs": "Two women who find each other in a world where best friends are hard to come by and even harder to make a montage with."

So we lost this past Saturday night against Lafayette in our (Football) season opener.
Per pennathletics.com, "In a game that was marked by stout defense, the Penn football team dropped its season opener to three-time defending Patriot League champion Lafayette, 8-7, Saturday night at Franklin Field."
To be honest, generally I'm not a huge football fan, however going to a Penn football game had always been special... Thinking of it brings back memories of tradition, community, bitter cold days, congregating outside the stadium to try to get last minute tickets, toast, keys, the Penn band, and oh yeah ...the game.

Will Green (C'09) a Political Science and Creative Writing double major, as well as a member of Penn's a cappella group Off the Beat has created a TV pilot he wrote and directed called Basement Productions.
Per Will, the synopsis of his pilot goes like this...
"Former bandmates Mike Stiles and Chad Roenick are a little down and out: out of college, out of work, and largely out of luck. But a night on the town suddenly changes everything, and soon the pair find themselves making music, friends -- and enemies -- in the mercurial underground world of Independent Music."
A+ for the use of the word "mercurial."

I found a very cool video on the web from youtube user "htcypher".
Per "htcypher", "during my senior year video class, I was asked to 'evoke a place.' Being a Wharton student, I was excited to show Wharton kids' talents reached beyond number crunching and facilitation. What I found was interesting. Everyone was so caught up in being an individual, they didn't realize they were all doing the same thing."
Things happen quickly at Wharton, but this is ridiculous!
