Which Penn alum just made a big announcement on Monday regarding the Sundance Film Festival?
Geoffrey Gilmore (C'74), Sundance fest director just announced that the film, In Bruges will open the 2008 Sundance Film Festival on January 17. Per Variety, "The film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two hit men forced to take a vacation in Bruges, Belgium."
“In many ways ‘In Bruges’ is a quintessential Sundance film -- it’s brutal, philosophical, funny and totally original,” said Gilmore.
FYI, Geoff was a participant in the 2002 Los Angeles Penn in Pictures Panel (featured in photo above) held at Arclight Cinemas. Other panelists included moderator Lew Schneider (C'83, Friars, Everybody Loves Raymond writer), Cary Phillips (CIS '91, Principal Engineer at Industrial Light and Magic) and Josh Goldsmith (C'92, King of Queens writer).

From his first video welcoming the class of 2011, then to his last ninja themed video from a couple of months ago, Jason Karsh (C'08) and the undergraduate assembly are at it again with another entertaining UA video discussing some of their projects relating to dining, shuttles, housing, and multimedia.

Click here to check out which alumnis' (multiple alumni!) sci-fi film Bruce Willis will be starring in!
This film sounds great...
First announced back in March, Todd Lieberman (C'95, AEPi, Mask and Wig) will produce "The Surrogates" with husband and wife Penn alumni team Max Handelman (C'95, AEPi) and Elizabeth Banks (C'96).
Per Variety, "Willis plays a cop who, through his surrogate, investigates the murders of others' surrogates. The cop is forced to venture from his own home for the first time in years and unravels a conspiracy."

I love this.
It seems with the new Platt Student Performing Arts House, Penn has really been providing students with some very cool opportunities. (thank you Marc Platt (C'79)!)
From this fantastic program to an even more fantastic, dare I say "cool" opportunity open to students, staff, faculty and alums(!).
More after the jump...
Twice a semester, the Penn Collective sponsors "Up on Stage". From their website, performers have included "musicians, bands, jugglers, irish fiddlers, belly dancers, a capella groups, jazz quintets, folk musicians, and a large number of other performers."
This is awesome! A mini Pennfest of sorts.
Nick Gonedes, the director of the program explains, "We schedule the first two hours of our shows (4 segments, 30 mins each). After that, we allow "walk ins" to perform. (That's the real "open mic" part of each show.)"
Their next show is on Sat., 12/1.
Next semester's shows are indicated on their website: http://www.penncollective.com.
Those interested in performing should email Nick Gonedes at gonedes@wharton.upenn.edu.
