CannesFelisha Liu (W'09) was part of a semester long Penn in Cannes program which had her and other Penn undergrads attending the festival last month.

Before the program started, she shared with us two posts about her experience with the program thus far and what tactics she was going to consider in order to get into the most screenings while at Cannes.

Well, she's back ...and has some great insider info!

Check back next week for my 5-part Penn in Cannes series which will cover Felisha dishing about:Felisha Liu
  • The films she saw (both the good and the bad!)
  • Walking the red carpet and the stars she saw
  • What humbling tactics she actually used to score tickets
  • Why her "Cinephile Badge" was the worst badge to have at the festival
  • Advice from Penn alumni industry big wigs who were at the Festival
  • Getting caught up in the frenzy of it all!

For undergrads coming to Penn for their first time and for alumni who haven't been back to campus in sometime now, there continues to be foodtrucks lining the streets of Penn's campus.

One class project looks into why the foodtruck owners on Penn's and Temple's campuses picked their locations.

videosWatch the video here

UPennSpeaking of foodtrucks, check out the film I made back in 1996 featuring one very special foodtruck which may or may not still be on Penn's campus these days...(anyone know?)

Shia LaBeoufPhoto credit: Patrick Wolff ('09)

DT correspondent Jonathan Rivera (C'10) was at Penn today (Wednesday) and dishes to DT readers on what he saw being filmed for the Transformers 2 movie and his encounter with Shia LaBeouf!

"It was me and another one of my friends Laura Kelly. We stopped in front of the upper quad gate and there he is. He was wearing a green shirt and carrying a green purse. (?) After that we walked around to the other side of the quad...in front of Leidy Labs. I was trying to sneak in somehow and a member of the crew saw me. We talked with her for a while and she told us that she saw him do Yoga in the morning. She also said that he's really short in person, but seems nice. We eventually go back to the upper quad gate where we just sit and wait. In that time there were several shots of students with luggage. It looked like they were filming move-in. The crew also brought him a cake for his birthday. After about an hour, he comes out. Surrounded by guards he blazes past us, giving us time for only one picture. As he gets into the car my friend yells, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" He responds, "Thank You." He's really short and tan. His hair looked like it had been dyed."
Max's story reminds me of when I was busted in front of Tom Hanks when the film Philadelphia was shot at Penn. Read more here!

As President Amy Gutmann had discussed here and here from her February visit to Los Angeles, Penn's new $3.5 billion capital "Making History" campaign has started it's expansion to the Schuylkill River.

Flea CircusWhile many people graduate after Penn from business schools or law schools, I bet Adam Gertsacov (C'86) is the only one to graduate from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Clown College!

That's right.

Adam made it on the cover of The Charleston City Paper, but he also got profiled in the New York Times' wedding section.

Read and watch the New York Times' coverage on him and his bride!

Allison Winn ScotchWhat if you had the opportunity to go back in time and choose a different path? It’s a question we all ask ourselves and author Allison Winn Scotch's (C'95, Theta, DP Columnist) wrote a book about it...that's about to go Hollywood.

Not only will this book be published in October 2008, but the Weinstein Company has just acquired the right to it!

Per Harvey Weinstein, "Scotch's writing is both outright honest and at the same time comically engaging. She provides a strong female voice with characters that easily relate to the screen."

Allison Winn ScotchThe Time of My Life (per Allison) is about an unhappy housewife who has been “whisked seven years back, back to her old life, her old self, back to the moments in which she made decisions that charted her future course. And now that she’s back, she’s faced with the same roadblocks and obstacles, only this time, armed with hindsight, she can choose a different path and finally lay to rest all of her "what ifs.”

Read a full synopsis of The Time of My Life here...+/-

“From the outside view, Jillian Westfield has a pitch-perfect life. Her cherubic 18-month old daughter, her wildly successful investment banker husband, a four-bedroom, five-bath, lemon-scented home with landscaping and neighbors to match. But that doesn’t stop her from mulling over the past, from pushing away the "what ifs" that haunt her when she allows them to seep into her consciousness. What if she hadn’t married Henry? What if she hadn’t abandoned her job at the first sign of pregnancy? What if she’d never broken up with Jackson? What if she answered her mother’s letter? Because underneath the shiny veneer of her life, Jill waddles around in a faltering marriage, brewing resentment, and an air of discontentedness.

But after an ethereal massage in which her therapist releases her blocked chi, she wakes up to discover that she’s been whisked seven years back, back to her old life, her old self, back to the moments in which she made decisions that charted her future course. And now that she’s back, she’s faced with the same roadblocks and obstacles, only this time, armed with hindsight, she can choose a different path and finally lay to rest all of her "what ifs."

Much more than a story about a real life desperate housewife. Instead, it speaks to so many of our tiny, lingering doubts, the same doubts that send us googling old friends and exes or wistfully pulling out pictures of days gone by. And through Jillian’s journey, in which she rediscovers the mother who abandoned her, reacquaints herself with the strengths she once deemed important, and may literally rewrite her future, we all get a chance to peek inside the windows of our own "what ifs," and consider if the path we took was the one that has granted us the most happiness.”
On a related note, as you may remember, another Class of ‘95 alum is also doing a project about a character going back in time to right wrongs with his younger self.
