Mark Sanchez and David ClowneyAttention sports fans!

In her ongoing "Girls Guide to Fantasy Football" series, this week, Jordan Zucker (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) was able to catch the New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez and Wide Receiver David Clowney for a few quick, up close and personal questions ...including locker room secrets for the ladies!

This took place at Jersey Lanes where Clowney was hosting a bowling benefit for The Clowney Foundation.

After her appearances on "Scrubs" and Bobby Flay's "Grill It" show, Jordan is clearly comfortable on camera!

UPenn Jewelers
Another case of Penn alumni (lawyers) with other careers!

Former college roommates (in photo to left: l to r:) Jessica Bohrer, (C'99 (technically graduated in '98), SDT) and Rebecca Richards (C'99, Theta) were inspired by vintage pieces handed down from their mothers and grandmothers and fell in love with the idea of taking something old and making it new. After a few months of brainstorming, their company Dalla Nonna (which translates from italian to "from the grandmother") was born!

Just a day after their ten-year reunion weekend a couple of weeks ago, Jessica and Rebecca launched the first collection of their jewelry line on Dalla Nonna: the calendar necklace.  Per Jess:
"Dalla Nonna’s signature piece, the calendar necklace, exemplifies dalla nonna’s blend of tradition and trend. derived from an old tie pin of jess’ grandpa howard, each piece is executed in 14k yellow, white or rose gold or sterling silver, and accented with a sapphire in a color chosen by the wearer to commemorate a date of her choosing (could be a birthday, graduation, anniversary, mother's day (may 10th!), birth of a child or any other important date).  With its sleek and modern design, the calendar necklace is a subtle statement piece that allows the wearer to hold a date that is close to her heart even closer still. The calendar necklace is the perfect way to mark a birthday, bat mitzvah, engagement or wedding and a great way to congratulate a graduate!"
Although they're relatively new to the market, they've already been getting great press; Entertainment Weekly, the "Ellen DeGeneres Show", Daily Candy and Urban Baby have featured them in the past month!

As part of my Pinching PENNies series, I thought my women readers out there would appreciate some money saving advice from one of our alumni style and beauty experts, Jenn Cohn Falik (C'01, Theta).

Recently, Jenn was on a popular morning show talking about unique finds that help extend the life of some women's fashion investments.

Check out some of the products she talked about below (these also can make some good Mothers Day gifts!):

A few months ago, Jordan Zucker's (C'97, Kappa Alpha Theta, captain of UPenn Equestrian team, Stimulus Children's Theater) all female fantasy football league, "GirlsGuidetoFantasyFootball.com" was featured on the morning news HERE.

This weekend she and her site were featured on another popular news program. Check it out above!

Per Jordan, "We started out as all first timers and learned how to play together. Now we’re schooling the guys."

While the fantasyfootball season is over, you can still check out Jordan's site, and see her VERY creative, weekly video wrap ups which includes:
  • Studs and Duds
  • Best Man Pile
  • Best Man Hug
  • Best Body Jump
Incidentally, Jordan is no stranger to TV. A couple of years ago, she was featured on close to 10 episodes of Scrubs playing the character of "Lisa" (click here to see her in action!)

Happy Superbowl Sunday everyone!

UPenn, Hollywood, Lindsey Rosin, Showbizzle.comWhat happens when you graduate from Penn, have a hot TV spec that catches the attention of ABC, ..and then the writer's strike happens?!

You partner with your successful Hollywood father to create an entertaining and informative website for other creative types to join and network on.

Lindsey Rosin (C'07, The Excelano Project, The Writers House, Kappa Alpha Theta) has joined forces with her father Charles Rosin (Executive Producer of Beverly Hills 90210 for the first five seasons) to create www.showbizzle.com , a new form of internet entertainment that combines daily updates of original, scripted video content with a social network aimed at emerging actors, writers, directors, fans of the biz – basically anyone with a computer who is looking for some fun entertainment.

UPenn, Hollywood, Showbizzle.com
Other Penn alumni friends have worked with Lindsey on showbizzle; Gabe Laskin (C'05, Mask and Wig) and Spencer Crawford (W'05, Mask and Wig), both have appeared as actors on the site (Gabe even has one of the three leads). Joey Power (C'06), Stacey Lloyd (C'06), Reg Tigerman (C'07, Mask and Wig) and Jonah Platt (C'08, Off the Beat) all wrote different characters for showbizzle as well.

Per Lindsey,
"The website serves as the daily blog of our fictitious blogger and main character, Janey. She hangs out at her favorite coffee place listening to old friends and new acquaintances, from all strata of Hollywood, confide intimate details about their career ambitions; creative aspirations, pipe dreams, hook ups, romantic liaisons, embarrassing day jobs, galvanizing moments, personal quests, major revelations, unexpected characters and narrative twists – you know, the basic personal and professional stuff that typifies what it's like to be young and in Los Angeles in 2008."
Lindsey sums up the site in 4 points:...+/-

1) Entertainment: it is a social entertainment website that streams scripted two-minute vignettes – updated on a daily basis – these vignettes are centered around the lives of twenty-somethings as they live and work in Hollywood.

2) Community: By joining our site, users can create their own profiles and submit their own videos and blog entries to tell their own stories – as well as comment on our scripted entertainment content, which will influence future story lines.

3) Insider information: Ever wonder what it really takes to make it in Hollywood? showbizzle also offers career advice and insider info via video-taped conversations between showbizzle writer/executive producer Charles Rosin and various Hollywood types. The one thing we can assure you about the 170 videos we will be posting on the showbizzle website this fall is that each vignette feels authentic and different from virtually everything else you can currently find on the world wide web.

4) In addition users will be encouraged to send in videos and blog entries and allow the community to determine their favorites. The winners will then be brought to Hollywood and be involved with the professional production of showbizzle when we go back into production in early 2009,” Charles said.  Lindsey adds, “For some people, it might be an incredible opportunity and a big break -- the amount of exposure available on the internet is endless and that is so priceless to a young talent who is just starting out on their career and trying to break through.”

UPennFind out how Lindsey got her start as a writer, & what she wrote at Penn which led to her selling a pilot pitch idea to ABC.

Allison Winn ScotchWhat if you had the opportunity to go back in time and choose a different path? It’s a question we all ask ourselves and author Allison Winn Scotch's (C'95, Theta, DP Columnist) wrote a book about it...that's about to go Hollywood.

Not only will this book be published in October 2008, but the Weinstein Company has just acquired the right to it!

Per Harvey Weinstein, "Scotch's writing is both outright honest and at the same time comically engaging. She provides a strong female voice with characters that easily relate to the screen."

Allison Winn ScotchThe Time of My Life (per Allison) is about an unhappy housewife who has been “whisked seven years back, back to her old life, her old self, back to the moments in which she made decisions that charted her future course. And now that she’s back, she’s faced with the same roadblocks and obstacles, only this time, armed with hindsight, she can choose a different path and finally lay to rest all of her "what ifs.”

Read a full synopsis of The Time of My Life here...+/-

“From the outside view, Jillian Westfield has a pitch-perfect life. Her cherubic 18-month old daughter, her wildly successful investment banker husband, a four-bedroom, five-bath, lemon-scented home with landscaping and neighbors to match. But that doesn’t stop her from mulling over the past, from pushing away the "what ifs" that haunt her when she allows them to seep into her consciousness. What if she hadn’t married Henry? What if she hadn’t abandoned her job at the first sign of pregnancy? What if she’d never broken up with Jackson? What if she answered her mother’s letter? Because underneath the shiny veneer of her life, Jill waddles around in a faltering marriage, brewing resentment, and an air of discontentedness.

But after an ethereal massage in which her therapist releases her blocked chi, she wakes up to discover that she’s been whisked seven years back, back to her old life, her old self, back to the moments in which she made decisions that charted her future course. And now that she’s back, she’s faced with the same roadblocks and obstacles, only this time, armed with hindsight, she can choose a different path and finally lay to rest all of her "what ifs."

Much more than a story about a real life desperate housewife. Instead, it speaks to so many of our tiny, lingering doubts, the same doubts that send us googling old friends and exes or wistfully pulling out pictures of days gone by. And through Jillian’s journey, in which she rediscovers the mother who abandoned her, reacquaints herself with the strengths she once deemed important, and may literally rewrite her future, we all get a chance to peek inside the windows of our own "what ifs," and consider if the path we took was the one that has granted us the most happiness.”
On a related note, as you may remember, another Class of ‘95 alum is also doing a project about a character going back in time to right wrongs with his younger self.

Allison Winn Scotch
Allison Winn ScotchAllison Winn Scotch's (C'95, Theta, DP Columnist) widely praised novel, The Department of Lost and Found comes out in paperback today.

The book follows the journey of a successful career woman who in coping with lost love and illness finds herself examining what went wrong in her life by tracking down five former loves. Per Allison, the main character learns "that sometimes when life is at its most unexpected, it’s not what you lose that makes you who you are . . . it’s what you find."

A more detailed synopsis here...+/-

"It didn’t start out as the worst day of Natalie Miller’s life. At thirty, she is moving up the political ladder, driven by raw ambition and ruthless determination. As the top aide to New York’s powerful female senator, she works hard, stays late, and enjoys every bit of it, even if the bills she’s pushing through do little to improve the lives of the senator’s constituents. And if her boyfriend isn’t the sexiest guy alive, at least he’s a warm body to come home to.

Then he announces he’s leaving. But that news is barely a blip compared to what Natalie’s doctor tells her: She has breast cancer. And she can’t cure it by merely being headstrong. Now the life Natalie must change is her own.

All her energy, what little of it she has left, must go into saving herself from a merciless disease. So when she’s not lying on the sofa recovering from her treatments and indulging in a curious addiction to The Price Is Right, she realizes it’s time to take a hard look at her choices. She begins by tracking down the five loves-of-her-life to assess what went wrong. Along the way, she questions her relationships with her friends, her parents, her colleagues, the one who got away, and, most important, with herself: Why is she so busy moving through life that she never stops to embrace it?

As Natalie sleuths out the answers to these questions, her journey of self-discovery takes her down new paths and to unexplored places. And she learns that sometimes when life is at its most unexpected, it’s not what you lose that makes you who you are . . . it’s what you find.

Hey Hollywood alumni, sounds like a movie to me. Get in touch with Allison at her website here!
