I've been covering all sorts of  "Penn in the Olympics" news all week at DT and now I've got some more!

Andrea Kremer (C'80), the reporter that interviewed all the Olympic swimmers, including Michael Phelps after each and every gold medal he won in Beijing, is a Penn alumna! She’s worked for ESPN before switching to NBC about a year or so ago. She primarily covers NFL football.

videosWatch Andrea interview Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay, Ricky Berens and Ryan Lochte after taking gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay.

Thanks to Kiera Reilly (C'93, Alumni Relations) for the scoop!

Check out the Gazette article on Andrea from 1997

The other day I wrote about some Penn alumni who have been involved in different parts of the 2008 Olympics ...one as a gold medal winner ...the other as a musician...

Now news of another alumnus who is doing some interesting work related to this summer's Olympics.

Since Glenn Osten Anderson's (C'02, Pennfest 2007) web-video project for The Long Road got nominated for a Webby Award, he has been working with his producing partners Brian Sabin (RW Staff Producer) & Josh Cox (World Class Marathoner and On-air personality) at Runner's World magazine to program and produce web video coverage of the US Olympic Track and Field Trials.

Per Glenn,
“We wanted to give a sort of 'insiders' view of the meet and the incredible atmosphere -- so we did feature stories, post-race interviews and daily recaps. We also wanted to deliver a really well-produced high quality production. There is a temptation with web-video (especially within the sports world) for fast turnover and thus getting 'something/ anything' up quickly -- we sought to truly produce the pieces like TV packages and the reaction has been fantastic (which helps justify the 22+ hour days out in Eugene).”

Last summer I reported that screenwriter Ryan Jaffe (C'96) just finished filming The Rocker.

And today it's now in theaters near you!

Per Ryan, "The Rocker stars Rainn Wilson, Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Jason Sudekis, Jeff Garlin, Jane Lynch, Emma Stone, Josh Gad, and Teddy Geiger. It's the story of a drummer that gets fired from a band just before they become really famous and earns a second shot at rock stardom twenty years later when he hooks up with his teenage nephew's band."

Check out how Ryan's beginnings and how he got his film produced!

Did you catch comedian Aaron Karo (W'01, Pennfest 2006) on the Craig Ferguson show this past Friday night?  He performed a really solid act discussing his ruminations ranging from what it means to "go out" for  "dudes" and "chicks" ...to his clever late night booty calls.  Check out the clip above!

Aaron seems to be making quite a name for himself.  In addition to his books, touring the country with his act, and this Craig Ferguson show performance, Aaron recently launched a new website: Ruminations.com

Per Aaron:
"For the first time ever, you can now write your own ruminations and share them with the world. If you’ve ever been at the bar and observed something hilarious, if you’ve ever been in the shower or on the treadmill and had a thought you just couldn’t get out of your head, if you’ve ever read my column and thought, “Hell, I could do that.” – well, now’s your chance."

Penn is being represented in the Olympics in more ways than one.

Yesterday, Susan Francia (C'04) was one of the eight who won the gold in rowing for the United States.

There's also news of another Penn alumnus who has been part of the Olympics stage as well.

If you've been watching the Olympics, chances are you've seen Gabriel Mann's  (C'95, Off the Beat) work...or maybe tivo'd right through it.

Gabe wrote music for a big McDonald's Olympics commercial, which  per Gabe is "the one with the breakfast chicken sandwich and a bunch of olympians talking about how awesome mcdonalds breakfast chicken sandwich is".  Check out in the clip above!

Besides this, Gabe also shared with me that he produced Sara Bareilles' first album, "the one before the big one on the big label".  It's called Careful Confessions, and it's being released by her label.
