Did you catch the Singing Bee on Tuesday night?

If you did, you would have seen that Jon Zucker (W'98, Pennfest 2007 musician) dethroned the long time champion and won $5,000!
Jon also mentioned on the show the time when he sang with Billy Joel in college (at Penn). It's true. Check out his fantastic video!

Because of his win, Jon comes back I believe(?) next Tuesday, 8pm on NBC to compete against a crop of new challengers.

Go Jon!

Click here to read a recap of the show!

(Recap below from mytvisonfire.com:)

"The Village People sing “YMCA” to help Joey pick the contestants.

Natalie is eliminated.

Round Two
A new game called playlist is played. The contestants get to pick from 6 categories that refer to the singer or the song. The Categories are “All Aboard”, “Screen Time”, “Little Buddy”, “Girl Talk”, “Hair Club” and “City Beat”. Suzie picks “Hair Club”, 1984 Twisted Sister “Were Not Gonna Take It.” Suzie gets it wrong. Jon gets 2003, Fountains of Wayne, “Stacie’s Mom”. Jon gets it wrong but keeps singing. The game goes to a tiebreaker. The clues are 1935, Fred Astaire. Suzie chooses to play. The song is “Cheek to Cheek”. Suzie gets it wrong. Jon moves onto the finals. Final Round Jon earns $5,000 for every correct answer. 1987, George Michael, “Faith”, He gets it wrong. It's 15 feet 9 inches long and Penn just set a guiness book record that belonged once to Harvard.

You've got to click here to find out what it is!

On October 14, 2006 the Harvard University set a new world record for the largest conductor's baton with a baton nearly 12 feet in length.

On October 20, 2007, the Penn band shattered that record with an even bigger baton!

Take that Harvard.

Norm Golightly (W'94, Mask and Wig) will be producing Darren Aronofsky's drama The Wrestler starring Nicolas Cage.

Per Variety, "the story centers on a a 1980s-era wrestling star, who scrapes by doing small-time matches in New Jersey's backwaters."

Norm currently runs Nicolas Cage's production company Saturn Films. I have known Norm since our Mask and Wig days and it's been great to see all the success he's had. For those of you reading this now, Norm actually wrote/created the "nude" bit that the Mask and Wig troupe performs to this day every spring fling.

Click here to check out this great article that was written about Norm from one of his hometown Canadian papers

Who knew..

...that there was a Philly Fight Night?

Per jumpcut.com user "Hansel", Philly Fight Night is "an annual tradition at University of Pennsylvania where students box other students in the historic Blue Horizon (the former training ground of "Smokin'" Joe Frazier and the filming location for much of Rocky V)"

Did you catch last night's episode of Brothers and Sisters entitled "States of the Union"?

It was written by Penn alum Sherri Cooper Landsman (C'94) and Liz Tigelaar.

If you're a fan of the show, it was a fun episode with some great dialogue. Per ABC.com, the logline for last night's story was: "With Nora along for the ride, Kitty and Sarah's attempt at a spa escape quickly becomes an entangled mess. Meanwhile, Tommy crosses a dangerous line in search of companionship, Rebecca grows concerned with Justin's impossibly speedy recovery, and Kevin presses Saul to make a confession about his past."

Sherri has been a writer out here in LA writing on such hit shows as Miss Match, Everwood and American Dreams.

Although the video is not yet posted as of 10/22/07, 10:20 am, check back to see if Sherri (or even executive producer and Penn Alum Ken Olin (C'76) speaks on the ABC "Writer's Room" site.
