In his documentary Truth in Numbers?, Scott takes us on the journey about the phenomenon that Wikipedia has become.
Per Scott,
"The question of whether you and I should be charged with canonizing the sum of human knowledge or whether that should be left to the scholars/experts really intrigues me. I think it’s safe to say that we’re among a populist revival era right now and nowhere is that more acutely reflected than on Wikipedia. If knowledge is power and history really is written by the winners, then Wikipedia, already the second most widely read publication in human history, clearly demonstrates this power shift towards "The People". The documentary tries to explore implications of that, among other things."

I am happy to report that Dave is doing extremely well. This year, not only was Dave the Associate Producer of THIS popular movie, and has appeared on the cover of Ad Age, but come this weekend, you'll see his name taking up the whole screen under the "Associate Producer" credit at the end of the new Star Trek film.
In an interview Dave did earlier this week with a Philly newspaper, Dave tells us why everyone's going to like Star trek:
'“I liked ‘Star Trek’ (growing up), but I was never obsessed with it,” says Baronoff, admitting he was more of a “Star Wars” guy. “What’s amazing about this process is I’ve been converted. What J.J. and the writers have done is to create a new way into the franchise and taken characters beloved by so many and found a way for the rest of us to connect with them.”'On Monday night I was fortunate enough to see an advance screening of the new Star Trek movie and it was really great. If you like JJ Abrams other works including Cloverfield, "Fringe" (you'll see similar title treatments and special effects in the movie), "Lost" and "Alias", you'll also love this movie for its attention to contemporary story telling and character development. You'll also appreciate the clever incorporation of some of your favorite Star Trek classic lines. Be sure to check out the movie when it comes to theaters this Friday!

Moses Port (left) and David Guarascio (right)Penn alumni and writing partners David Guarascio (C'91) and Moses Port (C'91), (former co-producers and writers of Just Shoot Me, last year's Aliens in America and 2001 "Penn in Pictures" panelists) are now developing a new single camera office sitcom for FOX.
Per Variety, their pilot is about
"a twentysomething man who starts taking a mood enhancer called Blisstilan. Snapped out of his funk by the drug, the lead character applies for a job at the pharmaceutical company. Once there, he must navigate working for his new boss, a high-powered female exec who boasts the nickname "The Velvet Hammer."More Penn Hollywood Writers here!

A couple of months ago one Penn alum was featured on the cover of a popular magazine and now news of another alum on a magazine cover.
Dave Baronoff (C'99, L'02, Mask and Wig) was selected by Ad Age magazine (leading advertising/media industry publication) for their Digital-A List for running a top 10 digital campaign. Dave has been recognized for developing the viral online marketing campaign for the Cloverfield movie.

What happens when a Penn alum leaves his successful NY legal career for a shot in Hollywood?
Ask Dave Baronoff (C'99, L'02 - Mask and Wig, AEPi ) who is currently working as an associate producer for JJ Abrams on Cloverfield, one of the hottest movies coming out this year. Dave says "the movie is almost as terrifying as my 40 more years of Stafford loan repayment."

Norm Golightly (W'94, Mask and Wig) will be producing Darren Aronofsky's drama The Wrestler starring Nicolas Cage.
Per Variety, "the story centers on a a 1980s-era wrestling star, who scrapes by doing small-time matches in New Jersey's backwaters."
Norm currently runs Nicolas Cage's production company Saturn Films. I have known Norm since our Mask and Wig days and it's been great to see all the success he's had. For those of you reading this now, Norm actually wrote/created the "nude" bit that the Mask and Wig troupe performs to this day every spring fling.

Penn alumni and writing partners David Guarascio (C'91) and Moses Port (C'91), (former co-producers and writers of Just Shoot Me and 2001 "Penn in Pictures" panelists) just got their pilot Aliens in America picked up on the CW Fall Schedule.

Per Variety,"Aliens" is set in Altoona, Wis., where Justin Hobgood is an awkward, lanky 16-year-old having trouble fitting in at school. His mom hears about the school's foreign exchange program and signs up her family, figuring the new arrival will give her son a hipness transplant.
Things don't go as planned, however, when the exchange student turns out to be a Pakistani Muslim who wears a kufi on his head and a shalwar kameez over his body.
