One of my favorite new shows this TV season is ABC's "Pan Am". The show does a great job romanticizing the 1960s while skillfully unfolding the backstories of the show's characters. (and yes ladies, now's the time to start thinking about a "sexy" Pan Am halloween costume)
When I was watching the 2nd episode this week, a Penn alum's name in the opening credits surprisingly caught my eye. Sort of.
If you saw the first episode this past Monday of this season's "The Bachelor" with Brad Womack (or if you don't watch it and a Penn alum tells you about it ...like me), you would have seen that "Ashley" (not a Penn alum), the Philadelphia native, was filmed on Penn's campus sitting next to "Ben on the Bench".

Did you see last week's episode of "Ugly Betty"? If you didn't, it was packed full of Penn!
As I was watching the credits, I noted that not only was Penn alum actress Becki Newton (C'00) featured but also Penn alum Andy Wolk (C'70, DP, 34th Street) directed this episode! ...Then just last night Debbie Frank (C'93) emailed in to let me know that actress Jill Abramovitz was featured in the episode as well.
I emailed Andy and he gave me some scoop from his time on the set...including the day the show got cancelled and the groundbreaking kissing scene...

In the clip above he played "Vlad Petrov", a drug dealing Russian thug. (and this isn't the first time a Penn alum played a Russian thug on an ABC show!)This is getting funny. There definitely seems to be an affinity for Penn alumni on the ABC network!

Speaking of "Private Practice", remember when actress Kate Walsh came to Penn for the Obama campaign? (Videos HERE)
In last week's episode, Roy plays a top notch psychiatrist. Roy tells me that his part is potentially recurring so stay stay tuned!
On another note, Roy has just started his own production company called Resonant Entertainment and he filmed his first project that is currently being sent to film festivals all over the world, called Juche Rules. The film tells the story of an American reporter in dangerous North Korea who comes face to face with the imposing and strange culture which is the modern day reality of the besieged nation.

Taryn Winter Brill C'00 was most recently an anchor on Good Day Sacramento but has now gone national!
As of yesterday, Taryn is now the new entertainment correspondent on Good Morning America with Diane Sawyer! I caught her segment today which had her on the streets of Manhattan reporting on the sometimes awkward custom of greeting a stranger with a kiss. She's a sure natural!
When Taryn was an anchor on Good Day Sacramento she expressed her "obsession" with late night show host Craig Ferguson and was soon after acknowledged by Craig(!) on his show. Check out this very cute clip here

Taryn isn't the only Penn alumnus in front of the camera in the news. ABC must like our alumni because we have Stephanie Sy on ABC News and Dara Cook on ABC News Now. Outside of ABC, Emily Frances is the entertainment reporter on New York's WPIX.
