Last week Los Angeles Penn alumni gathered in Hollywood to celebrate some great emerging Penn talent.
The night was filled with some dirty good comedy from host DJ Lubel (C'05) and great original music, improv, inspiring monologues, some over the top characters, a belting rendition of The National Anthem, and of course, a must-see musical(!) bit from the Bloomers alumni about what it means NOT to be Jewish at Penn. (hysterical!)
After the jump, check out some photos and videos from the night!
And congrats to Jeni Sue Birnbaum (C'08), Aimee Musil (C'06), Allison Karic (C'09), and EJ Baker (C'09) for putting together a spectacular event!

Actor DJ Lubel (C'05) and Producer Jake Avnet (C'05) have produced another viral video hit that explores how there's only one real way to tell a woman you love her...
And sometimes, "love needs a hand."
You know where this is going, and after the jump, find out how professional looking they execute on this this very funny, very NSFW film.

I asked Jake how they got the cast and he told me,
"We met them at a party when they were out in LA on their initial press tour. They were only supposed to be in town for the weekend, but they kept extending their stays because they were getting booked on so many talk shows. We pitched the idea to them, they loved it, so we shot it one afternoon in their hotel room. It was their first time really acting, but we had a lot of fun with them, gave them the chance to improv a bit, and "The Real Situation" was the final result."Check out "The Real Situation" above and watch out for DJ Lubel (C'05) as the waiter!
Incidentally, this short will actually airing on MTV tomorrow (Saturday) on a show called "Jersey Shore Spoof'd"

From the Penn alum who brought you "The Murray Hill Song" and "I Miss Moranis", DJ Lubel (C'05) has now created a, dare I say, very funny, and very well produced (thanks to Jake Avnet (C'05)) viral video so very NSFW (that's "Not-Safe-For-Work") that I need to have you click the "continue reading" link below to watch this video!

I've got a cautionary tale to share from lawyer turned stand-up comedian Matt Rittberg (Penn Law 2005) about the guys a girl meets if she stays out too late.
Last spring, I wrote a post about Matt's now he has just debuted his first musical comedy video called "I'm the Kinda Guy" and it is funny! So funny in fact that I decided not to wait to publish this for my Funny Friday series. And watch this video through til the end to learn about the other kinda guy you girls out there can also meet!
So what was the inspiration for this video?
Per Matt,
"A lot of my standup focuses on relationships and the ridiculous things guys say to try to get girls when they are trying to hook up (ex- the line about having an extra pair of gym shorts and the "no jeans" in the bed rule is something everyone who is single has said or heard before). Also, I lived in the Meatpacking district in NY, and I always see drunken girls stumbling out of bars at 4 am and random creepy guys hitting on them on the streets at hot dog stands etc. Watching those interactions (and occasionally partaking in them) inspired the song. More than anything, I hope it doesn't come off as misogynistic...after all, I'm warning girls and probably breaking some sort of guy code by giving away some of our dirty tricks!"
Since my last post about Matt, he actually quit his job as a lawyer to pursue comedy and is writing full time now. He's moving to LA in September to seek representation and chase the dream!
If you like irreverent, funny videos like Matt's, you'll also love the videos Penn alumni Aaron Karo (W'01), and DJ Lubel (C'05) have produced!

If you grew up in New York you'll love this video.
If you know someone from New York, you'll love this video.
If you went to Penn, you'll probably love this video.
What is it?
It's the latest short comedy musical from DJ Lubel (C'05) and it's all about New York (Murray Hill to be exact) and his circle of hebrew school graduated, sleepaway camp and teen tour loving friends. Not only is it clever, but it's well directed and produced.

Funny man DJ Lubel (C’05) seems to juggle a whole bunch of creative jobs here in Los Angeles.
- His day job is working as an Associate Producer on the show fellow Penn alum Roy Bank (C’94) created, Are you Smarter than a Fifth Grader?.
- He just finished working as an Associate Producer at "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D List" among other jobs.
- When he’s not writing scripts, he performs original comedic songs all around Los Angeles.
- He’s had shows at the Whiskey A GO GO, The Pig N the Whistle, El Cid, Cabana Club etc.
Right now DJ is working with other fellow Penn alumni including Jake Avnet (C’05), Conor Welch (C’05) and Jason Ziven (W’05) in developing future projects.
