Over the past year, I've done stories on our very own "21st Century Girl" rocker, aka Carly Greenberg (C'05) and all the TV shows she's been singing the theme songs for.
After the jump, listen to a new theme song single she just launched for yet another new tv series!
Last week Los Angeles Penn alumni gathered in Hollywood to celebrate some great emerging Penn talent.
The night was filled with some dirty good comedy from host DJ Lubel (C'05) and great original music, improv, inspiring monologues, some over the top characters, a belting rendition of The National Anthem, and of course, a must-see musical(!) bit from the Bloomers alumni about what it means NOT to be Jewish at Penn. (hysterical!)
After the jump, check out some photos and videos from the night!
And congrats to Jeni Sue Birnbaum (C'08), Aimee Musil (C'06), Allison Karic (C'09), and EJ Baker (C'09) for putting together a spectacular event!
Jake just launched "NEW ROMANCE", a new video you MUST watch which has all the cheesiness of "Saved By the Bell" combined with the horror of the Final Destination films.
Last August, I I posted about producer Jake Avnet (C'05, Co-Chairman of Undergraduate Film Advisory Board, Founder of the Lecture Series) and his hot viral video take-offs about (1) Trojan Condoms and (2) the film American Psycho. Since then, Jake has produced a very funny, very NSFW viral video with Scott Baio."We met them at a party when they were out in LA on their initial press tour. They were only supposed to be in town for the weekend, but they kept extending their stays because they were getting booked on so many talk shows. We pitched the idea to them, they loved it, so we shot it one afternoon in their hotel room. It was their first time really acting, but we had a lot of fun with them, gave them the chance to improv a bit, and "The Real Situation" was the final result."Check out "The Real Situation" above and watch out for DJ Lubel (C'05) as the waiter!
As far as I know, there are currently 2 sets of Penn alumni who have entered their commercials into the Doritos "Crash the Superbowl" Competition.
If their commercials make it to the top 6 (to be selected by Doritos), America will then vote to determine the top 3 finalist entries that will appear during Superbowl XLIV. The winner (the ad which ranks #1 on the USA admeter) takes home 1 million dollars! (check out another alum whose commercial was on during the 2008 Superbowl HERE)
Check out the commercials after the jump...
This week, I've got tidbits about Penn "entertainment" alumni on TV, stage ...and on Penn's campus!
While living in Washington DC as a speech writer, Grant Ginder (C’05, 34th Street, Beta Theta Pi) began to notice how the politics of the town began taking its toll on all the people around him.
From his experiences, a juicy novel came to fruition...and this weekend, Grant is coming back to Penn this weekend to talk all about it...
John has written a story called "Baby Blue" which is included in a new short story collection of Philadelphia-based fiction by Philadelphia authors called Philly Fiction 2: A Second Collection of Short Stories Highlighting Philadelphia as a City of Literary Inspiration . "The story centers on our narrator, who is working through becoming an adult via this renewed relationship with a former teacher. They meet by chance and wind up making plans to see a Phillies game, and our narrator winds up seeing an odd side of his former teacher."
Of the success of his past viral video hit "I'm the Kind of Guy You Meet at 4am", Matt Rittberg (Penn Law 2005) has now come up with a funny spoof based on Goldman Sachs outrageous compensation and Wall Street excess.
Trojan2Go Commercial -"Sri Lanka": Watch this guy travel the globe in the name of love! (reminds me of my undergrad film). I'm sure our Penn alum sexologist and Trojan spokesperson would approve!
A semi-NSFW cover of the Talking Heads Song "This Must Be the Place" laid over shot-by-shot re-enactments from American Psycho. ...Tell me that the star of this video, Miles Fisher (Harvard alum), doesn't look like Tom Cruise?!
"A lot of my standup focuses on relationships and the ridiculous things guys say to try to get girls when they are trying to hook up (ex- the line about having an extra pair of gym shorts and the "no jeans" in the bed rule is something everyone who is single has said or heard before). Also, I lived in the Meatpacking district in NY, and I always see drunken girls stumbling out of bars at 4 am and random creepy guys hitting on them on the streets at hot dog stands etc. Watching those interactions (and occasionally partaking in them) inspired the song. More than anything, I hope it doesn't come off as misogynistic...after all, I'm warning girls and probably breaking some sort of guy code by giving away some of our dirty tricks!"
