This Tuesday (12/25) Roy Vongtama (C'96) will be featured as "Dr. Yang" alongside Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman in The Bucket List. (this film comes out in major markets December 25th and then nationwide on January 11th. Click here for the synopsis.)
This real life doctor's acting career is getting hotter and hotter by the week!
On another Roy Vongtama note, be sure set your tivos because Roy will be appearing on a show called "Hot Guys Who Cook" on the Style Network on January 2, 9:30 pm. He tells me he cooks and does some yoga. Oh, this is going to be fun...

From the official Warner Brothers site, here is the film's synopsis:
"Corporate billionaire Edward Cole (JACK NICHOLSON) and working class mechanic Carter Chambers (MORGAN FREEMAN) are worlds apart. At a crossroads in their lives, they share a hospital room and discover that they have two things in common: a desire to spend the time they have left doing everything they ever wanted to do before they "kick the bucket" and an unrealized need to come to terms with who they are. Together they embark on the road trip of a lifetime, becoming friends along the way and learning to live life to the fullest, with insight and humor. Each adventure adds another check to their list."

Did you know that Penn's Abramson Cancer Center has been part of this week's NBC reality show "Clash of the Choirs"?
Per the Abramson Cancer Center site, "Philadelphia fixture and favorite Patti LaBelle is leading the Philly choir. Ms. LaBelle has been deeply affected by breast cancer in her family, and one of her long-time friends was also a patient at the Abramson Cancer Center . If Ms. LaBelle and her Philly Choir win the competition, she has chosen the Abramson Cancer Center and our With Our Voices program to receive the prize money.
Unfortunately, because I got this notice too late (and I decided to take a break from TV this week..sorry!), voting is now over and tonight is the finale. Let's all cheer for Patti's team!

One man. One costume. Another class project film.
And no, I'm not referring to this costumed guy...
Check out this super film project recently uploaded to DuelingTampons.com...
Logline:
"The Flash is an old washed-up superhero who is getting really sick of all this Spiderman garbage. He realizes he needs to get back in shape or else DC Comics will revoke him of his superhero status. He gets his chance at a comeback when a girl is in trouble and Spiderman might not come through this time..."
Enjoy!

The other day, I posted about Off the Beat's (OTB) "Snakes on a Plane" performance. (you'll note that a little bit of controversy from a former Glee Club member ensued in the comments section.)
Well, additional OTB videos have also just surfaced from their 2007 Spring show.
What was so special about this show was that it was Off the Beat's big 20 year alumni show. To celebrate their 20 year anniversary, Off the Beat had invited all alumni back.
Click here to see who came back and what they all did together (this is great!)

Gabriel Mann (C'95) and Jeremy Silver wrote and performed a beautiful song called "Make a Wish" for the Make-A-Wish's songwriting contest.
Although they came in 2nd place, this is a clear 1st place winner in my book.

make a wish
g. mann/j. silver
It’s hard to see
Where it all began
Did I really disappear?
Was a part of me
never really here?
I’m gonna find it
make a wish
Take a stand
You know I’m trying hard to understand
I’ll open my eyes
I breathe the air
I got these dreams and I’ll take you there
When you know I’ve had enough of this
So i make a wish
well I played that part
i’ve worn those clothes
and they always fit just fine
but when the day is done
the only one i want is mine
make a wish
Take a stand
You know I’m trying hard to understand
I’ll open my eyes
I breathe the air
I got these dreams and I’ll take you there
When you know I’ve had enough of this
every day, starts the same
i feel okay, but it’s harder and harder
to take my chances one by one
here they come again
you know I’m gonna
make a wish
Take a stand
You know I’m trying hard to understand
I’ll open my eyes
I breathe the air
I got these dreams and I’ll take you there
When you know I’ve had enough of this
So i make a wish

Over the past year, I'm discovering more and more alumni in different entertainment related professions (see the "Profession" pulldown in the header above to see what I'm talking about)
Specifically, I'm discovering more and more alumni in journalism.
One alum I just found out about is Stephanie Sy (C'99) who has recently been named Asia correspondent for ABC News.
Stephanie has been a part of some cool award-winning coverage and has been involved in some very interesting world-wide stories.

I just discovered this video from a past Off the Beat performance
Check out Off the Beat's great rendition of "Snakes on a Plane" and the excellent solos from Will Green (C'09), Rina Goncalves (C'07) and Jonah Platt (C'08). Some great voices here...

Actress Vanessa Mizzone (C'99, Pennfest 2004 co-host) just posted a VERY FUNNY short called The Road to Stardom about a young woman who goes in for a job interview and has no idea just how famous she'll become.
Oy boy. This video is essentially a response to a popular, yet disgusting video many people may know about that is going around on the web. The video you're about to watch is very funny and very not safe for work (unless you're watching this with earphones).

Maybe I enjoyed it because I grew up playing Scrabble with my dad.
Or maybe it's because I love playing Scrabulous on Facebook.
Or definitely because it's just very funny!
