Check out this newly released clip of Elizabeth Banks (C'96) in a scene where George Bush meets Laura Bush in Oliver Stone's upcoming W. Liz definitely looks like Laura Bush, no?

We've seen Liz do lots of comedy, but Liz is also really great at drama.  One of my favorite dramatic films of hers is The Heights.

Catch up on all the exciting projects Liz has been involved in here!

More Liz news coming later this week!

Did you see John Legend (C'99, Counterparts) perform his hit song  "Yes We Can" with will.i.am at last night's Democratic National Convention?   Check it out in the moving video above!

On that note, as you may recall, John debuted this song at Penn when he rallied on campus for Obama back in April. Watch this great video here!

It's clear that John is getting some serious national exposure these days with his involvement in this campaign.  If you didn't see, John also did an interview yesterday with Paul Williams on MSNBC at the Democratic National Convention. Watch the video below and find out how many millions of people saw his "Yes We Can" video when he posted it on youtube!

upenn
On Wednesday, I reported that Penn alum Charlie Herschel (C'01, Tour Guide, West Philly Tutoring) will be appearing on this season's Survivor: Gabon.

I've since chatted with Charlie about why he tried out for the show.  Per Charlie,
"I have always been a HUGE fan of Survivor--I used to have a "Survivor wall" at 4045 Pine Street with cut outs of the contestants and a home-made countdown to the finale. I threw Survivor parties at Penn and have remained a loyal fan ever since. I never thought I would get on the show so never applied. ...but I randomly applied this season and feel like I won the lottery. It's a dream!"

Apparently Penn is featured in the new documentary IOUSA which came out last Friday, 8/22. A guy is featured on Locust Walk handing out pamphlets about our nation's debt. (check out the clip below).

The trailer seems pretty interesting.. and is being compared to An Inconvenient Truth in terms of opening all of our eyes up.

Read the film synopsis here from the Apple Movie Trailer site ...+/-
"I.O.U.S.A. boldly examines the rapidly growing national debt and its consequences for the United States and its citizens. Burdened with an ever-expanding government and military, increased international competition, overextended entitlement programs, and debts to foreign countries that are becoming impossible to honor, America must mend its spendthrift ways or face an economic disaster of epic proportions. Throughout history, the American government has found it nearly impossible to spend only what has been raised through taxes. Wielding candid interviews with both average American taxpayers and government officials, Sundance veteran Patrick Creadon (Wordplay) helps demystify the nation’s financial practices and policies. The film follows former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker as he crisscrosses the country explaining America’s unsustainable fiscal policies to its citizens. With surgical precision, Creadon interweaves archival footage and economic data to paint a vivid and alarming profile of America’s current economic situation. The ultimate power of I.O.U.S.A. is that the film moves beyond doomsday rhetoric to proffer potential financial scenarios and propose solutions about how we can recreate a fiscally sound nation for future generations. Creadon uses candid interviews and his featured subjects include Warren Buffett, Alan Greenspan, Paul O’Neill, Robert Rubin, and Paul Volcker, along with the Peter G. Peterson Foundation’s own David Walker and Bob Bixby of the Concord Coalition, a Foundation grantee. Pointedly topical and consummately nonpartisan, I.O.U.S.A. drives home the message that the only time for America’s financial future is now."
