Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig, Phi Kappa Sigma) has been a favorite of mine on DT as he continues to crank out some very funny videos of which he has been producing, directing and even starring in.
This week, I want to showcase another very funny and very absurd short Matt directed for a group called The Apple Sisters. What you're about to see is a "commercial" for one of the "sponsors" of the Apple Sisters' 1943 radio show.
After watching this, I don't think you'll ever want to eat corn again.

This week Steven Vaughn-Lewis (C'12) just got his acceptance letter into Penn and he filmed it!
Alumni and undergrads chime in on why they chose Penn. Read their responses here!
I remember getting my acceptance letter for both Penn and Cornell in the same day. I was so excited, and such a dork, that I remember wearing a Penn sweatshirt the next day to high school with my Cornell sweatpants. While I was proud of these acceptances, I cringe at how I decided to showcase this to the world.
Of course it was that day when I officially adhered my "University of Pennsylvania" sticker to my car's windshield. (...Come on, we all did this didn't we? :) Comment below!)

Todd Lieberman (C'95, AEPi, Mask & Wig) will be producing a new film for Disney entitled Self-Guided.
Per the Hollywood Reporter, "the story centers on a man who magically goes back to high school as a guidance counselor to give advice to his younger self."
The funny thing about this film is that Jared Stern, a talented guy with whom I went to high school wrote this script and it's supposedly set in my hometown, "The Five Towns". Add this to the other films set in my hometown: Married to the Mob (opening train track sequence) and Amongst Friends.
Todd is a busy man these days. He's currently in Boston prepping two big films The Proposal starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, and The Surrogates, starring Bruce Willis.

Which alum just sold his production company in a deal valued at 200 million dollars(!) and said this?
"It's about exploiting our content and taking what we own and doing more with it ...We haven't done nearly enough with our shows."
Per today's Variety:
"In a deal valued at upward of $200 million, Endemol USA has acquired Cris Abrego and Mark Cronin's (Eng '86, Mask and Wig) 51 Minds Entertainment, the reality factory that perfected the celebreality genre with nonscripted comedies such as "Flavor of Love," "I Love New York" and "The Surreal Life."

CEO and fashion designer Kenneth Cole came to Penn yesterday during Penn's Fashion Week and told stories about starting up his own company and the issues he dealt with when he first wanted to develop "cool lady shoes".
It seems like this Penn Fashion Group has their act together with a pretty exciting line-up of events this year. Next up, they have a panel on The Evolution of Luxury & Retail with some pretty involved alumni. (Hopefully we'll be able to get some video of this soon!)

What happens when a group of undergrads get together to form a band and they’re still together touring the world over 30 years later?!
Ask Eric Bazilian (C’75, Penn Singers, Mask and Wig), Rob Hyman (C’72), and Rick Chertoff (C’72) who are currently touring the world with their band The Hooters.
Over the past 30 years, some notable achievements of theirs include:
- Rob and Eric writing and playing on Cyndi Lauper’s debut album "She’s So Unusual".
- Rob and Cyndi co-writing the hit song "Time After Time".
- Eric and Rob contributing much of the material and instrumentation for the debut album "Relish" for Joan Osborne. Eric's masterfully penned "One Of Us", shot up the charts.
More here about Eric’s beginnings at Penn...+/-
“I got involved with “Uncle Benny's Summer Camp” (also known simply as "The Cabaret" --also featuring Doris Cochran-Fikes (C'72) currently known for being involved in Penn’s Alumni Relations, and now Admissions) also as bandleader and musical director through Todd Feinberg (C'74) who was already in the group as a performer. I joined Mask & Wig spring semester senior year as bass player because I didn't have anything to do over spring break and Florida seemed like a good idea.
Outside of Penn groups, during Eric’s freshman year he played in a band called “Wax” with Rob and Rick and had a band called “Cyclic Blowfield And His Funky Calypsos” (together with Bob Goldman, C’74) which played numerous times at Houston Hall, in the Quad at Spring Fling, various frat houses and many more gigs.”
