This summer you've heard Ke$ha's "Your Love Is My Drug" just as many times as you've heard Katy Perry's "California Gurls". And while they both annoy the crap out of me (yet I will find myself listening to these songs regardless), there is one difference.
One of these song's music videos features a Penn alum.
Find out which one and who the Penn alum is after the jump!
Nothing seems to be slowing down Elizabeth Banks' career!
After the jump, more about Liz shooting a film in Philly, her appearance on last night's "30 Rock" and her upcoming directing gig!
Here's the scoop on some exciting news from 2 of our alumni:
Paul Provenza (C'79, Mask and Wig) has a new Showtime half-hour comedy series coming to Showtime, called "Behind the Green Room Door". If you recall, Paul directed and produced "The Aristocrats".
Per the Hollywood Reporter, "The six episodes, with host comedian Paul Provenza, will allow viewers inside the "safe" inner sanctum of a green room where legendary comedians will meet and personally talk with one another. The comedian guest list includes Jonathan Winters, Eddie Izzard, Roseanne Barr, Drew Carey, Robert Klein, Penn Jillette, Martin Mull, Tommy Smothers, Bob Saget, Sandra Bernhard, Andy Dick, Rain Pryor, Rick Overton, Paul Mooney, Bobby Slayton, Jim Jefferies, Patrice O'Neal, Andy Kindler, Dana Gould, Brendon Burns, Larry Miller and Reginald D. Hunter in addition to emerging new talent."

After some great music on TV and films, Gabriel Mann (C'95, Off the Beat) and his group the Rescues have signed a record contract with Universal Republic!

...Actually, Jon will be working on this project with Mike Karz (C'89, W'89), another Penn alum who will be in part producing the film.

DT Favorite filmmaker Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig, Phi Kappa Sigma) was fed up with the long primary and did something about it. ...He created a funny parody based on the I am Legend trailer!
Per Matt, "The last presidential candidate on earth... is not alone. Yay parody! Boo long primary!"Watch I am Obama
If you liked that, don't forget to check out Matt's other films about:
He's shown us scantily-clad women spewing corn.
He's warned us about the perils of answering "Coke" in a Pepsi Challenge.
He's delved into the world of a man who cheats on his wife with a vacuum.
And now DT favorite Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig, Phi Kappa Sigma) wants you to be careful about who you hire for your buddy's bachelor party.Watch Exotic Dancer and see what I mean (this is good)!
There's something just wrong about what you're about to see...and I say that in a good way!

Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig, Phi Kappa Sigma) has been a favorite of mine on DT as he continues to crank out some very funny videos of which he has been producing, directing and even starring in.
This week, I want to showcase another very funny and very absurd short Matt directed for a group called The Apple Sisters. What you're about to see is a "commercial" for one of the "sponsors" of the Apple Sisters' 1943 radio show.
After watching this, I don't think you'll ever want to eat corn again.
Even after 13 years since graduation two Penn filmmakers are still collaborating and doing some high level Hollywood projects together.
In between picketing during the big Writer's Strike, Rob Pearlstein (C'95, DP) wrote*, directed and acted in a new, very funny short MATUMBO GOLDBERG (Rob is featured far right in movie poster). Along with the film's producer and fellow classmate Loren Mendell (C'95, Class President, Friars) they produced this short which already has Hollywood buzzing about a potential series and feature.
MATUMBO GOLDBERG is about a trendy, none-too-bright couple who adopts an African baby, only to find their new son isn’t quite what they expected. The film stars Anthony Anderson (The Departed, Transformers, Law & Order) and J. Robin Miller (Andy Barker P.I., General Hospital)
In addition to my weekly Tuesday Tips, Wednesday Websites and Now and Then Thursday series, I want to now prove that I can add an descriptive adjective to yet another day of the week with my "Funny Fridays". This series will showcase the works of many of our comics, sketch comedians and improv undergrads and alumni.
To start things off, Matt Johnson (C'99, Mask and Wig, Phi Kappa Sigma), directed and stars in a very funny short called "Pepsi Challenge".
Produced with his sketch group The Royal We, this short film is a parody of the Pepsi Challenge, The Manchurian Candidate, and, well, just watch it. You'll never take a Pepsi challenge the same way...
Take Matt Johnson's Pepsi Challenge
Check out a film Matt directed which seriously sucks..in a very good way.

Did you catch Ken Olin (C'76) on Brothers and Sisters last night (see image above)?
Typically directing this show's episodes, this Penn alum took off his director's cap, and put on his acting cap to perform opposite his real life wife Patricia Wettig.
As you may recall, both actors appeared together years ago on Thirtysomething (see photo to left).
Click here to see some photos I took of when Ken Olin came to campus back in 1992!

You'd think that after running Pennfest for 6 years, I would have heard of most musicians out there. However with this site and facebook, I keep on discovering great Penn talent out there!
Nikhil Dhingra (C'10) is quite the latest find.
Click here to check out his debut music video for "Be Like That" (directed by talented Penn undergrad Kevin McMullin C'10)
Nikhil has performed at many venues in Downtown Dallas and Philadelphia including Club Dada, The Door, Legacy Shops, World Cafe Live, and his single "Be Like That," has aired on the Texas radio station, The Ticket 1310.
Be on the lookout for this guy. I think he's going places...

"Just wanted to send a note to say thanks for your continued work w/ Dueling Tampons. it's one of the various e-news blasts I read most days. I really liked the one about '3 generations at Penn'."
-Jody Girgenti (C'98)
"As an outsider to the entertainment industry and to LA, DuelingTampons.com gave me an excellent jumping-off point to start my job search. It enabled me to learn about Penn alums in the entertainment industry and conduct necessary preliminary research. From there I was able to reach out to our incredible alumni network, schedule introductory meetings and phone calls, eventually land an interview, and finally secure an internship at a top Hollywood studio."

I mean it gave me sense memory of Penn... of the Walk when it was cold, or being in McNeill with Abiel, or being in German class, or taking 20 extra minutes to get to class because of seeing everyone I knew on Locust Walk, or people that sat in my classes that are now really famous or important... just a great site"
