Recently, I covered Penn alum author Laura Dave (C'99) and her books The Divorce Party, London is the Best City in America
and now her new book The First Husband
(read an excerpt here).
We've learned that she doesn't write with one of these, but that seems to be okay because her book just got put on a prominent list you may have glanced at this past week!
Find out which list after the jump!

Ever since the Dueling Tampons were constructed at Penn in 1973, they've gotten lots of flack.
After the jump, find out which organization has recently deemed the structures as "questionable taste in outdoor sculpture."

As you've seen on DT in the past, I like covering stories about how Penn and its alumni make it
on all sorts of great "lists".
Today I have 3 Penn alumni you should know about who have made it onto some great Hollywood Reporter ("THR") power lists.
Today one alum ranked as #33 today on "Reality Power List" and the other two (who I haven't covered on DT in the past) were on last year's "Next Generation Young Guns" list.
After the jump find out who these moguls are.

Looks like Smokes, Penn's popular drinking establishment just got ranked #4 on the Complex's "50 best college bars".
Too bad THIS popular "see you in Church" Penn bar never lasted long enough to make it to the top of this list! (loved those skylabs!)

Sure Penn has an ongoing rivalry with Princeton, but according to Forbes Magazine, it looks like Penn wins the "we've got more billionaires in the world than you" game...

Throughout the years and through much fantastically proactive effort like THIS, it comes as no surprise that Penn has recently been named #1 (for the 3rd year in a row) for THIS!

Another alum just made another Hollywood list.Stand-Up Whitney Cummings (C'03) just made Entertainment Weekly's Top 12 future stars of comedy.
Per Entertainment Weekly,
"Why We Think She'll Be Big: Behind her model-like smile is a filthy, filthy mouth. The wickedly raunchy comedian — she wrote for the Bob Saget roast — finds time between incessant gigs for films (Made of Honor) and TV (MyNetworkTV's The Tony Rock Project).Recently, I asked Whitney about which activities at Penn helped put her on the road to becoming a stand-up...
Why She Thinks She'll Be Big: ''If I don't, I'm gonna make a sex tape with Aziz [Ansari]. There are no shortcuts, so I tend to be a workaholic. My hobby is my job. I'd be doing it for free. Which I think a lot of us do anyway.''"
Per Whitney,
"I had a show on the Penn tv station that was a goofy cooking show with a friend of mine. I took Carolyn Marvin's class on the first amendment at Annenberg and it made me want to challenge taboos, and I tend to do that in my work as a stand up -we had a bunch of discussions and classes on Carlin's words you can never say on television-it got me really into carlin, even more so than i already was -that had a huge impact on me-and it made me want to push the envelope in whatever I ended up doing in my life. That class really made me interested in taboos and if you've seen my stand-up [see video above] you know I tend to explore and play with a lot of them. I tend to push the boundaries on network television and dive in to topics that society deems inappropriate - and whenever I deal with censorship it makes me think of that class I took at Penn.More on Whitney's website here

Last week, Matt Reilly (C'00) just got named as The Hollywood Reporter's Top 5 Under 35.
Here's the scoop per the Hollywood Reporter,
"Matt Reilly, 30Check out other important "lists" alumni are on!
vp production
Warner Bros.
New Jersey-born Reilly first tasted the business as a summer intern for James Moll and June Beallor, makers of the 1998 Oscar-winning docu "The Last Days." His big break didn't happen until a college buddy working as an assistant to Patrick Whitesell, then at CAA, suggested Reilly take his place. He had only been on Whitesell's desk a month when the agent famously jumped ship for Endeavor. "He called me on a Sunday night and asked, 'Do you want to go with me?'" Reilly remembers. "I was in the eye of the storm of something really big, but at the time I was just going with it." Reilly soon realized he didn't want to be an agent after all. He credits Endeavor's Tom Strickler for pushing him to take a job at Warners, comparing the studio with the Yankees: "'You want to play for the Yankees, don't you?'" Reilly recalls Strickler asking. Reilly now oversees an upcoming slate that includes the Seth Rogen comedy "Observe and Report," political thriller "The 28th Amendment" and Ben Affleck's "The Town.""

She made the Vanity Fair magazine cover, was featured in a steamy GQ photo spread and now Liz Banks (C'96) has been named People magazine’s “100 Most Beautiful” for 2008! In the magazine, she poses with no make-up, and still looks great!

Rich Ross (C'83) just was named #14 on out.com's 2nd annual "Power 50" list.Per out.com:
"When it comes to program-ming for children and adolescents, the president of Disney Channel Worldwide probably has more clout than anyone else on television. Since his appointment in 2004, Ross—who is responsible for 62 Disney channels and offshoots including CDs, toys, games, clothes, and international tours—has spearheaded tween juggernauts Hannah Montana and the Emmy-winning High School Musical, whose 2007 sequel attracted the largest audience ever for any basic cable telecast and spawned a soundtrack that became the number 2 album of 2007."
Pretty impressive...
Speaking of Rich, last week, he just confirmed in the trades that Disney is now writing High School Music 4. Can someone say cash cow?
Ever since I've been at Penn, I know Rich has come back from time to time to speak to undergrads looking to get into entertainment. He has been very helpful to both undergrads and alumni...
Back in 2003, Rich was a panelist in our Penn in Pictures event with Todd Lieberman (C'95, Partner at Mandeville Production company) and Joan Harrison (C'81, Bloomers, then Literary Agent).
