UPenn
Yesterday, I posted a video about a Penn alum asking our Penn in Pictures panel about the art of the pitch.

Today's question from our audience to both Sherri and Lew is:
"Why was your Spec Script Successful?
...and What is some good advice in terms of writing one?"

Any suggestions of your own to offer our Penn community?  Comment below!

Check back next week for Sherri's answer on "Where she gets ideas for stories on "Brothers and Sisters?""

Yesterday I talked about this year's great Penn in Pictures event and how I will be posting videos from the event.

To start things off, check out the video above of TV writer Lew Schneider (C'83, Everybody Loves Raymond writer).

In the video, Lew talks about:
  • His major at Penn, his time in Mask and Wig
  • How her pursued a life in comedy as a stand-up, tv host, an actor and a TV writer
  • How he transitioned from actor to writer and what shows he wrote for before landing his Everybody Loves Raymond gig
  • What he's been doing since Raymond ended (including new pilots, a great animated show he wrote for, and his time now on New Adventures of Old Christine)
More Penn in Pictures videos tomorrow!

UPenn
(l to r): Lew Schneider (C'83), event producer Reg Tigerman (C'07), Zach Lutsky (C'97),
Sherri Cooper Landsman (C'94) and Jason Resnick (C'92)

"How do I break into the entertainment business?" is the number one question Penn alumni and undergrads always ask of me.

In late October, the Penn Club of Los Angeles hosted its annual Penn in Pictures event at ICM and those who attended got some answers from some of our successful alumni panelists.

These paneslists included Jason Resnick (C'92) (Universal acquisitions), Sherri Cooper Landsman (C'95) (Brothers and Sisters Writer), Zach Lutsky (C'97) (ER Medical Consultant) and moderator Lew Schneider (C'83)(Everybody Loves Raymond, New Adventures of Old Christine)

If you missed the event, not to worry!  For the first time, we have recorded the event and starting tomorrow (for the next 2 weeks), I will be sharing with you the videos from all of our panelists and more importantly, the 20+ questions that our alumni asked of our panelists including the ever popular question on "how do I get into the business"!

Check back here on DT, you'll definitely want to know what our panelists said!  (sign up for the free newsletter below to get the updates delivered to your email!)

Lew Schneider (C'83) featured in "The Christmas Letter"

As I sit at home on Christmas morning sipping on my light egg nog and reminiscing about Hanukkah, I am enjoying a whole lot of TV marathons.

One great Christmas episode I just caught was an Everybody Loves Raymond episode, called "The Christmas Letter" written by Penn alum Lew Schneider (C'83, Mask and Wig). Lew actually is in the episode as the photographer taking the Romano family photo. (see screenshot above)

Per TV.com, here's the episode summary:

"Ray believes he has finally found the ultimate Christmas gift for his parents--if nothing else it will certainly be something they will remember forever. Ray is thrilled when he hits upon the perfect gift--a family photo that his mom and dad can treasure forever. But, when the day arrives to take the picture, Ray tries in vain to keep the peace when Debra and Marie have very conflicting opinions about the meaning of "family" in family photo."
Speaking of Lew, I just got wind that Lew is now co-Executive Producing CBS's The New Adventures of Old Christine.
