If you missed SNL this weekend, you would have missed Vanessa Bayer (C'04) doing her Miley Cyrus impression alongside the actual Miley Cyrus (dressed us as Justin Bieber).
After the jump, watch the sketch (be sure to watch the whole bit, especially around minute 3:10 when Miley breaks character a bit to let Vanessa know what she really thinks of her impression.)
Plus, check out Vanessa's return to Penn's campus to support the comedy group she got her start in!

If you missed SNL on Saturday night you missed seeing Penn alum Vanessa Bayer's (C'04, Bloomers) enthusiastic energy and smile planted in a good number of sketches. In fact, her face was the first to open the show in a sketch where she played a secretary announcing Christine O'Donnell's arrival at the Republican National Committee Headquarters.
Having been a fan of SNL now for almost 25 years, it is clear to me that Vanessa's got "it". As I watched her through the show, it became clear to me that she reminded me of a young Cheri Oteri.... super committed to her characters with that great smile! ...I realized this during the sketch when she played a woman lunching commenting on how fantastic her friend's "tiny hat" was.
After the jump check out the "Wedding Venue: it could happen" and "Tiny Hat" sketches she appeared in and screengrabs from all her appearances throughout the show (including the magical look from Vanessa in the show's final "goodbye" moments)!

And now Lesley Wolff's (C'93, Bloomers) popular Los Angeles workshop starts up next week and you can be a part of it! If you've ever wanted to do stand-up, but were afraid, Lesley is the person to train under! I've been to several of her shows and she really knows how to bring the funny out of novice stand-ups.
Per Lesley,
"The Fresh Faces workshop is a 5 week workshop taking you from never doing stand up to a 5 minute set at The Hollywood Improv. The class is all about finding your individual point of view and getting personal . If you have a life you're a comedian. It's a fun energized class that takes the mystique out of the daunting process of creating a set and leaves you with a slight addiction to getting up on stage. If you think you want to try stand up but never knew where to begin this is the class for you. Go to www.myspace.com/ffcomedy and check out some of the past graduates. Workshops are ongoing. To sign up for the next workshop email Lesley Wolff at Lesleywolff@gmail.com. Remember...'If anyone else can do your set...it's not your set'."
Next Fresh Faces Workshop will be Tuesday nights (12/8, 12/15, 12/22, 12/29 with a showcase 1/5 at the Hollywood Improv)
Then in Jan: Weds 1/6 1/13 1/20, 1/27 (7:30pm - 9:30pm) with a showcase Feb 3rd at 7:30pm
Space is limited.

Julie Kraut (C'04, Bloomers)'s new book SLEPT AWAY comes out today and if you went to sleepaway camp, I'm sure you'll relate to/appreciate this.
This is Julie's second book since HOT MESS: SUMMER IN THE CITY and it fits into that "chick lit" category I covered with another Penn alum author HERE.
Check out the synopsis below and note that the camp in her book "Camp TimberTrails" sounds like a conglomerate of camps "Camp Timberlake" and "Trails End"...2 very popular sleepaway camps for Long Islanders like myself..(although I went to Camp Wayne!):
"Laney Parker is a city girl through and through. For her, summertime means stepping out of her itchy gray school uniform and into a season of tanning at rooftop swimming pools, brunching at sidewalk cafes, and—as soon as the parents leave for the Hamptons—partying at her classmates’ apartments.
But this summer Laney’s mother has other plans for Laney. It’s called Camp Timber Trails and rustic doesn’t even begin to describe the un-air-conditioned log cabin nightmare. Laney is way out of her element—the in-crowd is anything but cool, popularity seems to be determined by swimming skills, and the activities seem more like boot camp than summer camp.
Splattered with tie dye fall out, stripped of her cell, and going through Diet Coke withdrawal, Laney is barely hanging on. Being declared the biggest loser of the bunk is one thing, but when she realizes her summer crush is untouchably uncrushable in the real world, she starts to wonder, can camp cool possibly translate to cool cool?
Summer camp might just turn this city girl’s world upside down!"
What inspired Julie to start writing? How did the Kelly Writers House help her? And what advice does she have for you...? Find out from her HERE!

Alison Greenspan (C'94, Bloomers) is about to work with Hilary Swank on an upcoming film that will sure to tug at your heart.
Alison will be producing the film You're Not You based on the novel by Michelle Wildgen about "a woman dying from Lou Gehrig's disease and a younger woman who takes care of her."
Per today's LA Times article:
"the initial push to adapt Wildgen's book came from Greenspan. Her sister recommended the novel, noting that a key character -- like their dad -- had Lou Gehrig's disease. "I thought this could be a special film, because there aren't that many great parts for women, and this story has two," Greenspan said. 'They give each other valuable gifts before one dies and the other is launched into adulthood.' "

Who are the best acting coaches?
Who are some good photographers to take my headshots?
Where should I get my headshots done?
