History Channel

If you got a BA at Penn in Classics, and then went on to get your PhD in Classics from UT Austin, as well as a Fullbright scholarship and an American Academy in Rome fellowship, you just know the History Channel is going to be knocking at your door...

UPenn entrepreneur

Back in the day I remember passing Sigma Chi and the guys would always be playing some sort of Volleyball game with beer cups in their hands.

Well Sigma Chi alum Brent Wagner (C'04) decided to turn those days into a business for which he is now in the running to win $50,000 ...and he needs your vote!

Brent's company "The Day of Games" is a leisure sports gear, events and apparel company which provides competitive products ranging from leisure sports leagues, to outdoor games including bocce ball, horseshoes, cornhole, ladder toss and more.

More after the jump!

UPenn Sorority girls
This week Penn's Greeks are uniting for a good cause.

UPenn’s Panhellenic Chapter of Operation Warm will host "Kill the Chill" Week to benefit the Operation Warm organization which will raise money to donate new winter coats to the students of the local Drew Elementary School who might otherwise be unable to afford this winter essential.

As the inaugural partner of Operation Warm’s University Program, Penn’s chapter hopes to reach this year's goal of $5,000.

"Kill the Chill" week will include various daily events that will encourage donations on campus. Events will include:
  • a "Kill the Chill" benefit concert on Thursday, November 5 from 7-9pm (performance by on-campus groups such as Dischord A Capella and Destination Hip Hop) Tickets will be sold on Locust Walk.
  • on Friday evening Sprinkles Frozen Yogurt will be donating 15% their sales to Operation Warm.
All of the donations will go directly to purchasing the new winter coats, which will be distributed to the Drew Elementary School students on November 18th.

New York Times ActorHe's impersonated Emeril Lagassi and even starred in one of my undergrad films...

And this past weekend Jared Miller (C'97) was featured in "The New York Times" Arts Section as a "comic in training."

Check out the article on Jared HERE and find out why "coming out" and skydiving don't mix very well!

Halloween

Last month I introduced all of you to actor Ben Pace (C'00) and his fun "Elevator" series in which he stars as "Harold the Janitor".

This web series which was developed in the HBO Lab and has recently been bought by Break Media, launched a fun, campy, "Halloween" mini-series this week.    In the 4 episodes, "Harold" (Ben) figures out a new way to get the girl.

Watch these 4 very short videos through and I think you'll agree with me that Ben is indeed a great, slick comedic actor.
Part 1
Harold reveals a bloodthirsty secret when he gets his 25 years of service award.

Part 2
Vampire Harold has a passionate exchange with his beloved and Chris is caught in the middle.

Part 3
Robert shares his own monstrous secret to Vampire Harold. Harold is not amused.

Part 4

Something is killing employees all over the building. Vampire Harold has to come clean to stop the murders.

Happy Halloween everyone!
