At the beginning of this past summer, our "15 second clip" correspondent Kelly Diamond (C'13) was just about to start her fantastic internships at a Nickelodeon and Mandeville Pictures.
She told us about how she researched getting these internships, what you need to know about moving from Penn to LA and what responsibilities she had at these internships
Now that the summer is over, Kelly is back at Penn with a great follow-up for us about her summer internships and 10 career tips she learned this summer you don't want to miss! (especially the invaluable lesson Nickelodeon taught her!)

As my DT readers know, I've got tons of stories about established Penn alumni musicians, filmmakers, actors, plus dozens more entertainment professions.
I've even begun covering stories about new young alumni trying to break into entertainment careers such as acting, more acting, and music.
What I haven't covered are undergrads getting summer internships who are trying to break into the business.
This summer, our "15 second clip" campus correspondent Kelly Diamond (C'13) is out in LA and has secured not one, but two GREAT entertainment internships in TV and film at a production company and a studio.
After the jump, get some quick dish from Kelly on:
- how she researched getting these internships
- what you need to know about moving from Penn to LA and how to prepare for housing and transportation
- what responsibilities she has at these internships and the great people she's meeting

Since the beginning of DT, I've been covering all sorts of stories about Penn alumni musicians, filmmakers, actors, plus dozens more entertainment professions.
Then, over the past couple of years on DT, I've been covering stories about new young alumni trying to break into careers such as acting, more acting, and music.
Now, this summer, we're going to be following two current undergrads who are out in LA exploring the world of entertainment.
To start things off, let me introduce to you LA native, Ali Kriegsman (C'13, Off the Beat). This summer Ali is working as an assistant for a clothing boutique, as an intern for a lifestyle and fashion magazine, as a hostess in an LA restaurant ...and as a blogger for DT!
While she is in LA, Ali blogs about her quasi self-deprecating, slightly offensive take on LA, "its desperate residents and the ridiculousness that ensues". I'm bringing Ali to my DT readers because I think she has a fresh, fun young take on LA that I think many LA "new" residents have, but over time become immune to : )
After the jump, find out more about Ali, which resources she used to get her magazine internship and then read which celebrities Ali has seen, sort of met, and makes fun (!) of while she has been here in LA.

My friend Sara Scott (C'00) emailed me asking me if I could pass the word on that she is seeking "some smart Penn students interested in interning at her company".
FYI, she works at a HIGH PROFILE company.

Last month I wrote about a fantastic new Penn sponsored entertainment internship program called RealArts. This program awards six paid ($2500!) summer internships - at MTV Networks, Rolling Stone magazine, Brooklyn Films, Shore Fire Media, Grand Central Publishing (former Warner Books), and Women Make Movies.
Today Penn announced the winners of this internship program!

After recently reporting about his next Jessica Biel film, Neil Parris (C’01) will now be executive producing a film adaptation of the book "Girl of the Moment" for Fox Atomic.
Per Variety, the book “is a comedy about a teen girl who lands a once-in-a-lifetime chance to intern for a famous teen starlet, thrusting the heroine into a glamorous and catty inner world of young celebrity.”
Speaking of Hollywood internships, undergrads, have you applied for the Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences Internship yet?

I recently got an email from Eric Barker (C'94) a former feature writer who is currently in Boston getting his MBA and wants to leverage his entertainment/media experience in the business world.
"First semester's over so I need to start internship hunting," says Eric. "I'm trying to reconnect with some Penn people and meet some new folks. What's the best way to go about building on my Penn network?"Great question.
As the former Penn Club President here in Los Angeles and Executive Producer of Pennfest (our now 6th annual emerging film and music festival), this has been a question I continue to get from aspiring undergrads and alumni anxious to get into the biz.
Click here check out my advice in 8 steps to Eric ...and all of you.

Our undergrads and alumni are not only mentally fit, but in the case of Collete DeBenedetto (C'08), physically fit as well.
Look out for Collette who is featured in the February 08' issue of the women's fitness magazine, Oxygen (on newsstands now!) She is in the "Tomorrow's Cover Girls" section looking hot!
Click here to check out Collette!
From the looks of it, this proactive undergrad has her act together not only when it comes to fitness, but when it comes to a career in entertainment. According to her facebook profile, I see that she has interned at both Scott Rudin Productions and at VH1 (both in NY). Something tells me she'll be one to look out for...

I'm often asked by many undergrads and alumni, "How do I get to Hollywood?" or "How do I start a career in entertainment?" You've seen the emerging talent on this site. You've seen the success stories. But how do you get in on the action?
So far I have been posting some great individual's paths to success here, but starting today, Im going to start up a "Tuesday Tips" series which will go deeper into pursuing a career in entertainment and help answer the following questions:
1) What should I do to have a career in entertainment?
2) What internships should I be seeking out?
3) What resources are available to me?
4) Which Penn alumni should I be speaking with?
5) What do I do to pursue a job when I get to Los Angeles?
These tips come from my personal journey out here in Los Angeles over the past 10+ years pursuing a career in acting and writing. I will also have alumni in other entertainment verticals out here (agents, assistants, film & TV producers, filmmakers) offer some tips within my posts.
I encourage everyone to comment below with:
-your additional tips to my weekly stories
-suggestions for future "Tuesday Tips" stories.
