The other day in my Hey Day 2011 post, I referenced THIS 2009 Hey Day video about kids jumping off of the Walnut Street bridge into the Schuylkill River!

Apparently, this "tradition" has continued.

Today was Hey Day and from the looks of it, the campus was filled with a sea of red tshirts, hats and canes.

During last Friday's "Hey Day", President Amy Gutmann pronounced the students of Class of 2011 "seniors". As you alumni see (and remember), much excitement and debauchery ensues during this ceremony.

On Friday, Hey Day '09 was celebrated in not such the traditional fashion.

Sure, the students all marched down down Locust Walk....but some brilliant students decided to cap the day off by actually jumping off of the Walnut Street bridge into the Schuylkill River!! Oy!

I love how in 2009, all the undergrads use the web to promote everything from their candidacy, to fraternity parties, to fundraisers and now ...Hey Day t-shirt designs!

The t-shirt design to the left by Audrey Menco (C'10) is this year's winning design. 

Check out the other Hey Day t-shirt designs HERE.  I also thought another contender was the "Obama"-esque design.  These designs all look way cooler than the t-shirt I had back in 1995!

It was THIS sort of day that convinced you to come to Penn.

You got accepted.

You really, really wanted to live HERE but may have wound up living HERE and then later HERE.

You moved in.

You've walked by THESE a million times ...looking, tearing and promoting.

You've heard Mask and Wig do Tuition...a couple of times now.

You've screamed or have heard others scream.

You've thrown THESE at people.

You've slipped and slided and never broken a bone crossing THIS.

You've flinged and flunged.

You've banged canes and eaten hats.

And now the class projects have ended.

You've just graduated and now what?

You cherish.

Hey Day 2008 happened on Tuesday this week and once again, judging from some of the facebook photos I've seen, craziness ensued!

Watch President Gutmann proclaim the once class of 2009 "juniors" now "seniors"!


And in case you missed it, watch President Gutmann proclaim last year's junior's "seniors" (and now practically graduates!)


As you'll see in both of the videos above, it is hard for President Gutmann to get decorum. I'm sure this always was and always will be the case.

1995 Hey Day

Next week, the Juniors will be taking part in the Penn tradition of Hey Day.

As I look through my pictures and videos from when I took part in Hey Day, every year I'm happy to see the tradition continue.

...Lots of red. Lots of bitten hats. And lots of drunkards.

Same bridge, different years, same deal.

I saw a photo from a facebook Penn friend of mine of the Freshmen Convocation 2007 ceremony and realized how often I've seen this same photo.

We've all seen this same photo.

The people have changed, but the traditions continue as we all celebrate, remember and rejoice in these undergrad milestones.
