For all those aspiring Penn TV writers, here's some advice for you, if you write a hit film, studios are more receptive to giving you your own TV pilot.
Case in point for one talented Penn alum...
Recently, NBC okayed the single-camera comedy pilot "Friends With Benefits" for (500) Days of Summer writer Scott Neustadter (C'98, TEP, 34th Street Film Editor) and Michael Weber.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the pilot "explores modern-day romance through the eyes of five friends each looking for "the one" but in the meantime settling for "friends with benefits."
This sounds in line with NBC programming: kind of like a 2010 edgier version of "Friends".
