Out of 216 people, this Penn alum is the winner

UPenn and Tom Christensen and musical improv

A couple of weeks ago, we covered the brilliant musical mind of Tom Christensen (W'03, Mask and Wig) as he competed in a national musical improv competition.

After a total of 216 improvisors entered into the Improv tournament, Tom, on behalf of "North Dakota" (the only one-man team) won four heated battles and then the championship!

After the jump, watch his fantastic opening number, "Voting is Easy," from the winning show.

Two Penn alumni actresses, 1 NBC scene

Have you been watching Penn alum Becki Newton's (C'00) new "Love Bites" show on NBC? If you have, on last week's episode, Becki shared the screen opposite another Penn alum and DT favorite, Vanessa Mizzone (C'99).

Finally, the the real Muppets trailer

UPenn and Muppets and trailer

We've seen two trailers about the new upcoming Muppets movie produced by Todd Lieberman (C'95, Mask and Wig, AEPi), but Disney has now finally released the real, full length trailer where we can definitely get the sense of what the movie will be about.

After the jump, watch the trailer and see how the film pulls out all those great, reminiscent Muppet moments we love!

This Penn undergrad dishes hard on the LA celebrities that come to her restaurant

Since the beginning of DT, I've been covering all sorts of stories about Penn alumni musicians, filmmakers, actors, plus dozens more entertainment professions.

Then, over the past couple of years on DT, I've been covering stories about new young alumni trying to break into careers such as acting, more acting, and music.

Now, this summer, we're going to be following two current undergrads who are out in LA exploring the world of entertainment.

UPenn and Los Angeles and celebritiesTo start things off, let me introduce to you LA native, Ali Kriegsman (C'13, Off the Beat). This summer Ali is working as an assistant for a clothing boutique, as an intern for a lifestyle and fashion magazine, as a hostess in an LA restaurant ...and as a blogger for DT!

While she is in LA, Ali blogs about her quasi self-deprecating, slightly offensive take on LA, "its desperate residents and the ridiculousness that ensues".   I'm bringing Ali to my DT readers because I think she has a fresh, fun young take on LA that I think many LA "new" residents have, but over time become immune to : )

After the jump, find out more about Ali, which resources she used to get her magazine internship and then read which celebrities Ali has seen, sort of met, and makes fun (!) of while she has been here in LA.

Wipe out: Jess's Nickelodeon surfer audition

UPenn and Jess Garvey and actress and Los Angeles

Over the course of us following actress Jess Garvey (C'09) in her "Starter Reality Star" series on DT, she has achieved quite a bit (from going on lots of auditions to booking commercials).

In today's episode, Jess starts a new day job and brings us on an audition that didn't go as well as she had hoped.

After the jump, watch the episode with special guest star and pal Penn alum Jeni Sue Birnbaum (C'08) and then find out what other exciting audition she had since this episode was filmed!
