Well, we've completed another Penn year from move-in to graduation and now it's time for Matt to go on a well deserved vacation.

Leaving Penn: A Bittersweet Memory Video Retrospective

It was THIS sort of day that convinced you to come to Penn.

You got accepted.

You really, really wanted to live HERE but may have wound up living HERE and then later HERE.

You moved in.

You've walked by THESE a million times ...looking, tearing and promoting.

You've heard Mask and Wig do Tuition...a couple of times now.

You've screamed or have heard others scream.

You've thrown THESE at people.

You've slipped and slided and never broken a bone crossing THIS.

You've flinged and flunged.

You've banged canes and eaten hats.

And now the class projects have ended.

You've just graduated and now what?

You cherish.

They're Producing an A Capella Group Movie!

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it's been recently reported that married couple Elizabeth Banks (C'96) and Max Handelman (C'95, AEPi) are adapting the book Pitch Perfect, into a comedy set in the world of competitive collegiate a cappella". ...Apparently, the key to Elizabeth Bank's success is to B sharp (sorry I couldn't resist).

Max and Liz's first produced film, starring Bruce Willis is being shot this summer in Boston with Mandeville producer Todd Lieberman (C'95, Mask and Wig, AEPi).

And if you're not fully caught up, Liz is now shooting Oliver Stone's W, playing Laura Bush (click to see her on the recent cover of Entertainment Weekly!).

Now and Then Thursdays: My Rejected Ivy Stone Design

This past weekend, the class of 2008 celebrated "Ivy Day" and unveiled the annual ivy stone (designed by college seniors Clara Bracke and Alexandra Lapinsky) at the northeast corner of 37th & Locust Walk

Recently, I went to visit my parent's home in NY and looked at all the "stuff" I dumped there after I graduated from college. There I found a scroll of a design I entered for my Class of 1996's Ivy Stone design competition.

At the time, since Penn was celebrating it's 50th anniversary of the development of ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer ...aka the world's first computer), I decided my design would incorporate the computer chip.

While I thought my design (above) was good, it apparently wasn't good enough :) Or as I like to think of it, perhaps too complicated to create. The image to the right was the actual ivy stone selected which now lives behind Houston Hall.

He Gave the Class of 2008 4 Virtues to Lead By

He's been "hired, fired, lauded and vilified" and after President Amy Gutmann spoke, Mayor Michael Bloomberg addressed the class of 2008 in Penn's rainy 252nd commencement ceremony.

In his speech, Mayor Bloomberg mentioned that he is surrounded by Penn alumni who work with him and then gave the class of 2008 "4 virtues to lead by" including the virtue of "independence", "honesty", "accountability" and "immigration".

Graduation Gloom: Watch Him Run From The Future

Graduation.

For most of us, it's a bitter pill we all most swallow. We are forced to make career choices that will effect us for the rest of our lives.

Back in 2005, Ben Rubenstein (C'05) created (and starred in) a poignant video about a college senior who is weeks away from his graduation and trying to run from the future.

Being that today was Penn's 252nd Commencement, I thought this video was appropriate. Enjoy!
