Spotlight on Schatar and why I love this Penn alum

UPenn and Schatar Sapphira
I've been covering Penn alum and "Flavor of Love" reality star Schatar "Hottie" Sapphira (Arts House Resident, Inspiration, Penn Black Arts League, Penn Gospel Choir, Penn basketball manager) over the past couple of years and I get exciting updates from her from time to time (remember the Star Magazine and Jerry Springer stories?!).

I love how she goes balls-to-the-wall and pursues everything she wants.  From reality TV star to children's book illustrator to singer, Schatar is a one woman marketing machine! Her perseverance is to be lauded like these Penn alumni.

After the jump you must watch clips from two of her latest events.  All I'll say is you need to see how she enters before she sings the National Anthem at a Las Vegas event!

1) Last week Schatar opened the Pura Raza Espanola "Pure Spanish Horse Show Program" in Las Vegas with her rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" held at the Southpoint Equestrian Center in Las Vegas.

You must watch her entrance!

...And let's not forget about THESE Penn individuals who have also sang their renditions of the National Anthems.

2) Last month, Schatar won for "Best Pop Music Performer Award" at the National BMAs (American Black Music Awards).  Watch her confident performance at minute 1:00.

Besides that, Schatar:
  • was welcomed as a new member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Science (NARAS). Her new CD "Crystal Kiss" is being submitted for Grammy nomination.
  • just filmed the lead role of Mikaela in "Exedia Nation", the first 3D Masters Thesis production at USC's Masters film program. This film was produced utilizing the Pablo system, the same used in the making of Avatar.  Did I mention she plays a computer genius female action hero who kicks butt and tosses grenades?  Watch this space for video!
  • taped a tv singing show pilot.
Keep on living the dream, Schatar!
