Follow this Penn undergrad as she pursues a career in the biz

As my DT readers know, I've got tons of stories about established Penn alumni musicians, filmmakers, actors, plus dozens more entertainment professions.

I've even begun covering stories about new young alumni trying to break into entertainment careers such as acting, more acting, and music.

What I haven't covered are undergrads getting summer internships who are trying to break into the business.

UPenn and Kelly Diamond and Hollywood and University of PennsylvaniaThis summer, our "15 second clip" campus correspondent Kelly Diamond (C'13) is out in LA and has secured not one, but two GREAT entertainment internships in TV and film at a production company and a studio.

After the jump, get some quick dish from Kelly on:
  • how she researched getting these internships
  • what you need to know about moving from Penn to LA and how to prepare for housing and transportation
  • what responsibilities she has at these internships and the great people she's meeting
For any undergrad or alum considering a move to LA to pursue a career in entertainment, be sure to follow us this summer here and on our Facebook and twitter pages!

Before I begin with Kelly, I can tell you that having followed plenty of alumni who have moved out to LA to pursue a career in entertainment, I can tell you that the biggest pieces of advice I can give you are:

1) Get in early with internships and meet people.
2) Be sure to check out this highly reputable paid entertainment internship that I got years ago, as well as Penn's own paid internship program.
3) Read this DT article on how to use DT to research and meet alumni

1) Kelly's Intro

2) Researching LA summer internships

3) Living out in LA: what you need to know about housing and transportation

4) What Kelly does at her movie and TV internships

Also, be sure to check out my story I covered about the undergrad who dishes hard on the LA celebrities that come to her restaurant.

Check back next week, when I introduce you to yet another Penn alum out in Hollywood to follow on DT with valuable insight from his successful pursuit of another popular entertainment career you'll all want to hear about!
