"Yoi" Gevalt: This Music Producer REALLY loves the Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers and UPenn and football and Superbowl

Since Vijay Chattha (C'00) lived on the bottom floor of 4010 Spruce his senior year, he has always been into music and nightlife.   Back in 1999 he co-founded and later sold Philly2nite, an online nightlife and entertainment portal with fellow Penn alum entrepreneur Nihal Mehta (C'99, Pi Lam).

Now, as a rapper and executive producer for a group called BlackMahal, he has created something you'll all want to check out this weekend.

After the jump watch the very unique (and catchy) Bhangra-style Steelers anthem and music tribute video he produced.

After you watch it, you'll be in the Superbowl spirit for sure!

In the video above, Vijay mashes up iconic archived footage and images into a visual celebration of the glory of Steelers history.  Members of the Steeler Nation – across age groups, generations and cultures – are shown in their black and gold garb throughout the video.

UPenn and Superbowl and Pittsburgh Steelers
The song takes the classic black and gold colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers and adds the silver of the storied Lombardi Trophy, given to the winner of NFL Super Bowl.  It features samples of the late Steelers passionate broadcaster and icon, Myron Cope, as the band re-invents the "Yoi, Yoi, and Double Yoi" catchphrase.

This has to, among other things, be the first time a Yiddish catchphrase has transformed into Punjabi Boliyaan!

Vijay tells me,
"The new colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers are black, gold and silver. The Lombardi trophy and its silver sheen has become a standard of success in the team's historic franchise, so we wanted to celebrate our colors on the song."
So how many "yoi"s do you count in the video?  : )

For reference check out this video below about Myron Cope starting at minute 1:15, "yoi" and "double yoi" reference at 6:15):
