Today, Penn President Amy Gutmann introduced President Bill Clinton at the “Kerner Plus 40” Symposium in Irvine Auditorium.
Per Penn's press release:"Sponsored by Penn’s Center for Africana Studies and Annenberg School for Communication and by the Institute for Advanced Journalism Studies at North Carolina A&T University, “Kerner Plus 40” marks the 40th anniversary of the 1968 report issued by the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorders, known as the Kerner Commission. The Commission was formed to assess the causes of race riots that occurred in U.S. cities during the 1960s. The Commission’s most chilling words came in its assessment that the nation was 'moving toward two societies, one black, one white -- separate and unequal.'"Click here to watch a highlight video from Clinton's speech today
