UPenn

This week, I've got tidbits about Penn "entertainment" alumni on TV, stage ...and on Penn's campus!

His Disturbing Portrayal of a Group That Works Hard and Parties Harder (BOOK)

Grant Ginder
While living in Washington DC as a speech writer, Grant Ginder (C’05, 34th Street, Beta Theta Pi) began to notice how the politics of the town began taking its toll on all the people around him.

From his experiences, a juicy novel came to fruition...and this weekend, Grant is coming back to Penn this weekend to talk all about it...

He's Getting Down and Dirty in the Ancient World (New TV Series alert!)

History Channel

If you got a BA at Penn in Classics, and then went on to get your PhD in Classics from UT Austin, as well as a Fullbright scholarship and an American Academy in Rome fellowship, you just know the History Channel is going to be knocking at your door...

And they are for Penn alum Darius A. Arya, (C'93, DKE, Water Polo, Classics)...

He Transformed His Fraternity Days Into a Business ...and He Needs Your Vote

UPenn entrepreneur

Back in the day I remember passing Sigma Chi and the guys would always be playing some sort of Volleyball game with beer cups in their hands.

Well Sigma Chi alum Brent Wagner (C'04) decided to turn those days into a business for which he is now in the running to win $50,000 ...and he needs your vote!

Brent's company "The Day of Games" is a leisure sports gear, events and apparel company which provides competitive products ranging from leisure sports leagues, to outdoor games including bocce ball, horseshoes, cornhole, ladder toss and more.

More after the jump!

UPenn Sorority girls
This week Penn's Greeks are uniting for a good cause.

UPenn’s Panhellenic Chapter of Operation Warm will host "Kill the Chill" Week to benefit the Operation Warm organization which will raise money to donate new winter coats to the students of the local Drew Elementary School who might otherwise be unable to afford this winter essential.

As the inaugural partner of Operation Warm’s University Program, Penn’s chapter hopes to reach this year's goal of $5,000.

"Kill the Chill" week will include various daily events that will encourage donations on campus. Events will include:
  • a "Kill the Chill" benefit concert on Thursday, November 5 from 7-9pm (performance by on-campus groups such as Dischord A Capella and Destination Hip Hop) Tickets will be sold on Locust Walk.
  • on Friday evening Sprinkles Frozen Yogurt will be donating 15% their sales to Operation Warm.
All of the donations will go directly to purchasing the new winter coats, which will be distributed to the Drew Elementary School students on November 18th.
